Hey I was just wondering if anyone here has a tip on removing the old bushing sleeves from the leaf springs and shackles. I can remove the small sleeve and the rubber bushing but the outer sleeve is rusted to the eye of the spring. So far no luck in removing it. I guess 33 yrs will do that :P
if you have a torch you can cut a grove into it (don't heat it up so much that the springs gets hot but if you are good this isn't a problem used to cut mufflers off of the pipe where it was clamped on without hurting the pipe so a spring is easy, and yes I have done this) or if you have a air hammer and muffler cutting bit you can slice it then using the hammer, and a punch bit peel it out.
Press them out, less chance for damage. YOu sould be able to find a socket just a tad smaller than the hole in the spring eye. YOure gonna have to press the new ones in anyhow.

I tried that already but the sleeve is frozen (rotted) to the spring eye. It will not budge. Im replacing them with polyurethane bushings so there will be no outer sleeve used.
hey clint, thats exactly what i ended up doing. I made to relief cuts opposite each other and then beat them out. Those ****ers were tight. Thanx for the input. The springs are ready to go back in with new poly bushings.
