i have two intakes an edelbrock performer 390, and a stock cast s-code. of the two which one is better off on my 410? i wish i had the money for an rpm intake. thanks, tyler
Cast iron S code gets my vote. I swapped a performer for a C7AE cast iron S intake with better performance. Don't know what edelbrock was thinking making such a poor intake.
I'd rather shave off the 50lbs and run the performer.
I just picked up a used Performer last week, if you'd posted this awhile back I would have made you an offer that would have put you well on your way to buying an RPM, oh well.
Contact TheImpaler, he had a nice used RPM for sale.
I'd use the S code also. Heavy yes but way better flow than the Edel. You can always sell both and have more than enough to get a RPM or with a throw in a few bucks and spring for a nice Blue Thunder intake. Which heads are you running? G.
Well there were both a large and small "S" intakes. The S was to tell the difference between the T (truck) and S (car) intakes and both came in a 2 and 4 barrel application. The small s intake first showed up in 66 as a revised part for the new style heads. The large S intake showed up in 67 for the 390 GT cars and was a tick taller with slightly larger port size compared to the small S. The T truck intakes were basicly the same early lowriser design with the ports closed in a little to match the newer style head for 66. The C6 small S intake will flow as well as the edel performer. The large S C7 intake will do a little better than the edel. So check which "S" intake you have before you choose. Sorry I did not think of this earlier. G.
I would say to use the Edle. Being aluminum it will shed the heat faster and you will have cooler intake charges so it will be easier to keep the motor cooler. Also the Edle will provide a better torque range and rpm power band.
I've actually put 40K miles on a 390 with a performer intake and about another 30K or so on the same motor with a 67 car S intake. The weight savings with the performer was not even close to being worth the better performance gained from the iron intake. The iron intake offers better low end likely from more even fuel distribution and made more midrange and considerably more top end than the performer. Keep in mind this is on a 901 cammed 400" 390 with D2 heads and stock valves. On a 410 with large runner heads, depending on what cam and other goodies you're running, you may want to skip right to the rpm manifold.

Can you guys give me a little more info on my intake? I believe it's an "S" code intake. Here are some #'s

I have this on my freshly rebuilt 390 with a 600 holley, 2" carb spacer, 458/484 cam with 260/270 duration, 9.5:1 compression, headers, 2.5" exhaust w/glasspacks. What do you think of this combo? I know most of you guys would probably say it needs a little bit bigger cam in it but that's the best I could do for now. My best guess for power would be around 310-325hp and 440-460ft/lbs of torque. Any guesses of power are appreciated. Wish I had more power though
