the expidition is by NO means a bronco. it's 4 door, doesn't have as big of an engine (though it's not far off), it's lighter, with a slightly weaker frame, you can't take the top off, and sadly it's owned mostly by a bunch of yuppies who will NEVER let it try to be a bronco. I'm not saying the Expidition is a bad truck, it's just not the same.
As a new owner of a full sized Bronco, I have to say it's MUCH nicer to drive than many of the newer SUV's I looked at. You have a very solid frame to start with, which is a great safety feature (for you, not for things around you). I've even been to Derbourne to see some of the new one's Ford is either working on... and yes there IS a proposed 2005 2 door full sized bronco in that list
You are exactly right. The V6 Escapes include the 3.0 DOHC 24-valve 201HP engine identical to the Taurus SE. It is incredibly smooth and powerful for a vehicle as light as the Escape. And, it gets great mileage to boot.
I have a 99 Explorer EB, but it's more fun driving the wife's Escape around town unless I'm hauling something.
I'm very surprised that Ford opted to put that much engine into the Escape.
Yes, I know the study to which you are referring. Unfortunately, the study did not simulate a blowout, but a flat tire, which is entirely different. Then, the authors tried to infer that the scenarios were identical. They are not.
I think that the study was less than scientific and I completely disagree with the author's conclusions.
Biohazard, things evolve , the Expedition was the next evolution of the fullsize Bronco, which when it came out in '78 I thought it was a gigantic blob of pedestrian mush for fat old men that could never do half what my 'original''75 Bronco could. Then a few years later I had one, it couldn't go everywhere my '75 could because of sheer size, but it could haul a lot more and had enough gas tank to get you somewhere,in a lot more comfort....
The Expedition is not a bronco and it was not born out of the bronco. Bronco's are built on f-150 frames, the Expedition is built on the f-250 frame. Every Bronco ever made was 4x4, you can get a Expedition without 4x4. In fact non 4x4 Expedition's are more common. I have a 1979 bronco xlt ranger and we are getting an Expedition for the family very soon. Expedition will be for the highway traveling, I can go almost anywhere in my bronco.
