Just ran into a sub contractor of mine driving a new F350 gasser. He asked how I liked my diesel. Of course I told him I loved it. But he said he was waiting till 2007 to get the cummins in the ford. Is there truth to this? Or is this just a urban legend. I didn't have much time to find out where he heard this from. I assumed the dealer. But I love My PSD or is this a case that ford might be trying to get more market share if it's true
I believe that you can get the Cummins in the F550 but not in the Super Dutys, if you want a Cummins get a Dodge if not get the Powerstroke and enjoy!!!!!!
Correction-Cummins is not available in the 450 or 550. You have to step up to a 650 or 750 for the Cummins to be an option. Why bother with it when the 3126 Cat is available!
My 6.0 works just fine also, so did my 7.3. I have nothing bad to say about the cummins motor. They are proven work horses. Just like the International. Now the dodge truck is another story.
I am sincerely glad that most are pleased with the IH FARMALL 6.0. I am not. It has good power now that I have installed a Predator, but when stock it was one sick puppy. I run mine in the 65 hp economy/performance mode and still cannot average better than 14.2 mpg (actual refill in neck, not lie-o-meter.) I had a 7.3 with a replacement chip and it performed fine (not quite as much power) and it consistently got 18mpg. With diesel prices as they are this thing is really hurting me. Problem is there is no viable alternative out there. There is the Duramax Izusu with aluminum heads or the Cummins (great engine), but with a Dodge built around it. I just hope FMC will wake up soon and put a dependable diesel engine in the F250/F350 series that will accentuate mpg.
I don't think it matters which engine you have there is bound to be a few problems with any of them. My buddies brand new dodge cummins blew up on his trip to CO. So ford is not alone with problems.
I live in Chicago, and the Plant where the R&D is done for the Power Stroke is about a half hour from my home, and a friend of mine who works for them says there will be a Twin Turbo Setup in 2006 or 2007 for the newly redesigned body, they actually have the new truck at there shop, I should be seeing it pretty soon and let you guys know how it looks.
FORD Is in the process of signing a deal with cummins to design and build a new v8 diesel, wish they would just put the 5.9 in the super duty and give the people who want a work truck that gets good mpgs a good truck.
