FORD Is in the process of signing a deal with cummins to design and build a new v8 diesel, wish they would just put the 5.9 in the super duty and give the people who want a work truck that gets good mpgs a good truck.
If that's true, I'd like to see some proof of it. Cummins as an exclusive contract with Dodge for the lighty duty truck market that is current at least through 2007.
cummins contract is for the 5.9 ,and ford perfers the v8,that is why they are designing a new engine, the 7.3 is a good engine the 6.0 is a problem, my opinion based on owning both. my 7.3s great engines no problems 6.0 nothing but problems, even the navistar people will tell you it is unlikley for a 6.0 to make it too 300k under fords programing the engine was never designed to run that high of rpms
I live in Chicago, and the Plant where the R&D is done for the Power Stroke is about a half hour from my home, and a friend of mine who works for them says there will be a Twin Turbo Setup in 2006 or 2007 for the newly redesigned body, they actually have the new truck at there shop, I should be seeing it pretty soon and let you guys know how it looks.
Is this new bodied truck around somewhere. Whew I would like to see that. Please post a picture.
It is AMAZING what people will write on the internet just to get people to read what they wrote.
Where would you get misinformation like that?
With my present tuning, my shift points are set at 4300 RPM's and rev limiting at 4750. Has been this way for 5000 miles now, and gets tached out 10 or 15 times a day on the average day. Probably not the healthiest thing for the engine, but as far as I am concerned, this IS a very RPM-tolerant engine.
A 7.3, Duramax, or Cummins (with stock internals) would have a similar effect to a medium or large sized hydrogen bomb at that RPM level
Personally, I couldn't give a (insert word(s) of choice here) less about reaching 300k miles. If this engine makes it 50k, I will be quite satisfied.
Well , since I run 4,000 miles a week , most of it towing something ... I sure better get more than 50,000 miles ! I think 250,000 is the engineering limit before major rebuild ?????
I do hope the 6.4 is a lower rpm range puller though ....

A stock motor will get far more than 50k miles, I wouldn't worry about that. I was referring to mine, since it gets to see deep into the redline quite frequently.
4000? I wouldnt let that scare ya. The SCMT Tuner will allow the tranny to shift higher than that.... I agree, these motors love to rev... for a diesel anyways.
I have version 5.00
I bought it used and i wont pay the money to get it updated. I believe they have very different shift patterns, getting on it very hard it runs to about 4500, and will do that if i spin the tires from a stop also, wont shift till about 4500.
i think that the rumor runnin around about teh cummins started back when ford and navixtar were talking about building a V6 diesel for the F150 and could not come to a agreement and trashed the project, then all the probs with the 6.0 when it came out. also there has been rumors about dodge using a benz diesel in their trucks, that hightened the cummins rumor for ford even more. now ford has, i believe its a 4.5L V6 diesel in a truck they are using right now, i dont know what company designed the motor but i seen an article of it in truckin magazine. i also heard a rumor that in 2007 that the V6 diesel will be available in the F150 and the PSD will go to 6.4L. also sometime ther is going to be a 6.8L gas V8 available for the F150 and prolly the super duty.
Guys, Cmon...
The 6oh should have a life of 250k and beyond, right?
Why would we spend the extra money for a motor that would not even last as long as a gasser?
Can someone with high mileage on their 6oh please chime in here?
