Question Coolant Filters

1st Post by a Newbie !

Looked around in the old posts for information on Coolant Filters and came up with just one. A coolant filter was mentioned but, nothing on how they installed it or what kind it was. Interested in knowing if anyone else has installed a coolant filtration system on their 7.3L PSD. Does anyone market a kit ?

I know baldwin & fleetguard both make filters that come pre-charged with coolant additives. But I haven't seen a kit specific to the PSD. On our larger Sterling & Volvo trucks we have a spin on coolant filter that comes with the truck as new. They work great at keeping the cooling system clean & they maintain the coolant additive levels really well.

Check my gallery for my coolant filter pics. I use a Baldwin base with NAPA spin on filter mounted to the alternator bracket. I use NPG coolant so I get the non-SCA filters.

Thanks, Pictures Really are worth a 1000 words. Noticed your upper rad hose doesn't run through the serpentine belt like mine. Is that Orig ?
Changing the Serp belt on my truck involves taking the upper rad hose off to get the old belt off & the new one on. I spoke a few choice words about Ford Design Engineering when I changed my belt @ 50K after having to catch & replace about 2 gals of coolant.

His upper hose is for a dual alternator setup.

dagren99, the hose you want next time you take it off is
NAPA # 9066, dual alternator hose like mech2161 said.
Put a tywrap around the hose at the cut-out spot in the metal bracket below the alternator to keep it out of the belt.

I plan on putting new hoses on my truck when I change the coolant. I'll see if our local Napa guy can get me one of the 9066's. Can't figure out why Ford wouldn't make them all that way dual alt's or not. Luckly the Serp's last awhile so it isn't that much of a pain.
