I can only comment on my personal experience. I have never owned a cat, but my wife brought 2 of them when we got married. I am a dog guy and we have 2 dogs. Here are some facts that have transpired.
1. The dogs are a handful, but they greet me at the door everytime I come home. The cats never have
2. The cats puke constantly across the carpet.
3. One of the cats only wants to rub it's bare tooth on your calf and it creeps me out.
4. The siamese is actually louder than the dogs
5. I don't like the fact that any animal eliminates in a box indoors (declawed, wife won't let em outside).
6. Cat crap seem to smell 10 times worse (I clean the litterbox and the yard, so I have a comparison)
I am a dog guy. I love the unconditional love. While I am not a cat guy, I would never harm them or want harm to come to them. I just would not choose one as a pet.
With that being said, those of you who are "cat" people and those of you who are "dog" people, enjoy your pets and all the happiness they may bring you.
I wouldn't mind having a couple barn cats around to keep the mice down, but every time one comes around and I start feeding it, my Drahathaar Max chomps them to death within a month. To those of you who think cats are smarter or more trainable than dogs, get real. I mean c'mon really, how could you actually even think of something that absurd much less believe it. Sheesh. If I lived in some pavement park bungalow and weren't allowed to have dog I'd get a parrot, at least they can talk. I'll stick with my bird dogs thanks.
Cats can be very intelligent animals, especially house cats. My cats greet me at the door, they come get you when they want to go outside and stand with their face in the window when they want to come back in, and if you get up in the middle of the night for a drink there's always one by the door to greet you. Cats are much more peaceful and less stressful than dogs. I love them both
Well we are horse, pony, dog, cat, fish and rat people and we have people who come over who hate at least 1 of our pets because of their own personal beliefs, feelings etc. I dont hold it against them until they attempt to be kinda mean to one of them. we have a motto at our home....you can try to be mean to one of us (hubby or myself) and we will take you down, you can try to hurt one of our kids and they will take your onery butt down but if you even try to be mean to one of our four legged or finned family members we will all take you down.
Our cats greet us at the door when we come home, they are right there with the dogs
They snuggle in our bed right along with the house dog. Our cat box is cleaned twice a day and scrubbed inside and out with hot soapy bleach water once a week. Our home does not smell like a cat and it never will. My kids have thrown up more on the floor (cant make it to the bathroom or it just happens super fast) more than all my animals combined. I have had more damage to my vehicles from bird poop than cats claws. What about my nice shiny rims and tires being peed on by stray dogs?
We respect peoples wishes when they come over. We put our dogs and cats up until they say its okay. I even keep OTC allergy meds on hand just in case. A friend of our takes a claritin when she comes for a visit.
My grandpa too said "never trust anyone who hates kids or animals" I found those that do normally are buttheads.
I like cats I guess. What I dont like is when they pee all over everything, sctach the furniture til its in shreds, and dont respond to any commands. Beleive me, you would be plenty mad if the cats peed on your kitchen counter! The smell of cat urine is enough to drive a man crazy, YUCK. Other then those things, I like cats, even have one myself, but they do get punished after misbehaving.
Ahhh, yes .... and the hate hate hate goes on. I'll still stand face to face with any man or woman and brag that I have always been with cats in my life, from early childhood to this day. My wife and I now have only three cats and two dogs.. our last adopted stray we had to have put to rest last fall, because his tired old body finally gave up on him. He had such a wonderful personality!
To say that cats have no intelligence... sigh ... such a gross misinterpretation and true lack of knowledge about them. There are good and bad among ALL of God's creatures....cat, dog, man... there is no one who is perfect.
I think this hate thread should be put to rest, myself .... afterall ... FTE isn't about hate. But ... I'll leave it be for now ... freedom of speech and all. I just think there are many better topics we can discuss, other than what and why we have to hate something or someone.
How about someone starting a thread, " What do you LOVE ... and why?" Lets see if that can be done, without adding I love "X" because I HATE "Y".
The problem I have with cats is more with their owners. Before I fenced in my property and got some cat-hating dogs, cats would get inside my Jeep and boat and spray. These same morons who think that leash laws don't apply to them would call the law in a minute if my dogs were allowed to run loose. I don't dislike cats but if you can't control yours, I'll control them for you...with a racoon trap.
Cats have personalities, just like dogs do. I'm a cat person and always have been, (dogs too, grew up with both) but I have to admit, I have met cats that I wasn't too fond of. Cats are very intelligent and can be trained, but most people don't bother, thus you get cats who pee where you would rather they don't, climb on counters and tables, and display other unwanted behavior. Is it the cat's fault? I think it's the cat owner's fault! I have seen dogs that were poorly trained or even untrained that had major behavioral issues (Hmm, kids too for that matter!). If A dog is untrained, you blame the owner. If a cat is untrained, it seems you blame the cat! And I never understood people who don't like cats because they are allergic to them. Is your allergy the cat's fault? Sure, blame the animal for your genetic problem, THAT makes sense!
However, people being what we are, we will always have our individual likes and dislikes. For instance, I HATE (sorry, Dick) rap music! Do I blame the rappers? Umm, yeah, I do. I also blame the people who keep buying that crap so that they keep making more, instead of letting it die the death it deserves! (Wow, tallk about hijacking my own thread!)
Sorry, got off on a tangent there. I'm in a weird place today and I'm rambling...I'll shut up now.... -TD
Well my two cats are the coolest, they own the neighborhood<?

I used to not really care for cats, but I never hated them. After I got married, we have owned 3 cats, and I love them to death now. If one of them died, I would seriously cry about it.
