Thumbs up The beautiful beast

I just picked up my 'new' truck. F250 Lariat Crew Cab 7.3 Diesel w/A.R.E. shell. Only 48000 miles. What a sweetheart. I am back to Fords after leaving in 1998 for Dodge. And I'm glad to be back! So, here are some concerns I have:
1) Although I only have 48000 miles, the truck is over the 5 year mark for the warranty. Does anyone out there recommend an extended warranty?
2) What do I need to look for right away? The previous owner maintained her in a pristine condition. Religiously changed oil and other services. Gave me all the records.
3) Does anyone know if I can change the side mirrors to the trailer towing mirrors that have the turn indicator built in? If so, where do I get them?

Okay...that's it for now. I'm sure I'll be chiming in this board quite often. Merry xmas everyone.

btw...I'm in the Gallery as 'Beautiful Beast'

1. Can't help there. I bought the extended warranty with my truck and never used it, so obviously I think I threw my money away on that.

2. See if you can find out if the SCA's (supplimental coolant addatives) have been properly maintained. Other than that, the maintenence is the same as any other vehicle.

3. Yes you can, check my gallery for pics of the mirrors on my 01. You can get them from Ford, but thay are pricey. I got mine off an online auction company.

The Extended warranty is like insurance...we all pay for it and God forbid we have an accident. But if we do we are covered. All my bud's have had a starter motor or some thing go out and it is usually around 400+ $$. So if you have three or more of those items in the warranty period it has paid for itself. I assume you are looking at the Base Care pkg 855.00 for 36k ...or 1320.00 for 48k as I have with 100$ deductible Extra Care for 1060.00 & 1670.00 respectively....I reseached 3 companies and one from my credit union. None of the competition was better than Ford , and surprisingly Ford was the least exspensive.

Oh yeah the mirrors are available from Ford too.I have a 2002 with out the turn indicators , the 2003 and up have them and are an ez switch. They are exspensive !
However for about 80 ea. they offer just the mirror with turn indicator in the glass <>
not half as cool as the indicator in the body of mirror , but still visible to motorists in a blind spot.
