Advice needed on extended service warranty

As I stated in my other post I just purchased a 2008 F3 50 lariat with the 6.4 L engine, Rbfcu offers an extended service warranty for $2100. It's good for 48 months or 48,000 miles. My truck has 78,000 miles now, at what point do they normally start having trouble with these trucks? Is it worth spending the $2100?

If you can get the service records of the truck and hopefully the previous owner followed severe duty service schedule. I would base my desicion on previous service records. Also if the truck has the dpf/doc still, it would be good general practice to change your oil every 5000 and fuel filters every 10,000. That will greatly improve the longevity of the truck. Don't forget coolant flush and fill. I did mine at 50,000 some recommend sooner. These trucks will make oil during regen and the extra oil is actually fuel filling the crank case. If you do a dpf delete you avoid regens. Downside is it voids the warranty. If you do a delete you'll never look back.

Yea I don't know how I would go about getting the service records from the previous owner? I did call the ford house where I got the truck for there service record from when they took the truck in on trade , they changed all fluids and filters including tranny , I'm just on the fence about spending the 2100 for 48,000 miles ? I know it's $$ well spent if a problem arises but what are the chances of that Happening.

If your on the fence 2100 seems pretty cheap for a little peace of mind. I personally think your getting a good deal on the warranty. These trucks are extremely expensive if they breakdown. 2100 is a pretty cheap insurance policy. Try and figure out how many miles you put on in a year and see if you can get the full 4 years out of the warranty.

Yup your right , I only drive it on weekends that I'm off & I think it will take nearly the 4 yr to reach the 48k miles so I went to the bank and got the plan , if nothing else I have peace of mind

I'd spend the extra $$$ for a ESP premium warranty...after market warranties can be misleading and at times will replace bad and broken parts with used, or at best reconditiond...It can be a crap shoot.

Wouldn't touch any warranty other than Ford. First I have heard of a bank offering one.

Have them send you a copy of the warranty for review..In some ways it might be a benefit for a after market...such as fuel system contamination which Ford will decline repairs.
