1997 - Window problem

1997 - Window problem
Has anyone here had any experience with a left driver's window just all of a sudden not coming back up but the motor is trying.
We brought the car into the dealer and were told we had to replace the entire window assembly to the tune of $462.69 (only $34.50 was labor)....... Evidentally, the window was off the track and that is the way the windows come?......
This is not covered by extended warranty but would you agree that a SUV with no off-roading,local or highway driven 48,000 miles,and no abuse should not have this happen? Isn't this poor workmanship?
I have the window that was replaced and I don't think the dealer screwed up.....
I'm contemplating writing directly to Ford.
Any comments?
