After going to Bonneville for the last 30 years I can truthfully say the popular engine to use are the small and big block Chevrolets followed by the Chrysler Hemi. The most popular Ford by far is the Flathead. However the most popular way to tow your race trailer of any kind is a Ford Powerstroke..Both 6.0 and 7.3.. You can count the Chev/GMC diesels on one hand. Next, behind the Fords are the older 5.9 Dodges with no electronics.
After using a 96 F-150 5.8 my 04-6.0 was a real pleasure especially pushing off a 3500# car which uses high gear only. 0-to-70 is unbelievable. Getting there was a pleasure for the first time in years. Good luck to all. Red 04-6.0-CC-SB-Gibson exhaust-No chips.

Powerstroke is still the best selling best truck in my opinion which is the only opinion I am interested in...LOL

I've been trying to get my dad to switch to ford for years. He has a 01 GMC (gotta mechanic comin) with 70,000 miles on it and he claims it's as good as new. He had a chance to drive my 04 6.0 a while back and said he really liked the power, but wasen't ready to switch over yet. I guess sometimes you can you can get a good one, and I have to admit-his truck is pretty nice.

IMO: All the majors make a good truck. Just boils down to personal preference and a good pick off the lot. Each truck design has it's own attributes and misgivings.

With that said. Only one of my buddies drives a Duramax. Just a couple of issues that were quicly taken care of by a good service dept. What he absolutley hates is the interior design. He even sent Chevy Corporate a letter complaining. If Chevy doesn't make a change he will convert to Ford in a couple of years.

A couple of other guys have Hemi / Dodge (which they love). Only one wanted to mess with me though...and he changed his mind after a little demo ride in my just slightly modified 6.0.

Bottom line though is that my friends that work construction or farm for a living, and there are many, overwhelmingly drive the SuperDuty (V-10 or 6.0) in all it's forms and configurations..

While all the majors make a good truck...it sure is fun busting my buddies that are on the other side.

Yes I enjoy giving the Isuzu and Mercedes boys a hard time too. They might be all right but I would still rather have a V-8.

The build quality of Chevy's is definately subpar, but they do have some nice options and gadgets inside, like thermostats on heated seats...hehe

I did like the interior ammenities and arrangement of my last chevy truck. A well thought out counsel that fits inbetween buckets (doesn't look thrown together the day before), a place to hold pens. Rear storage compartments, rear AC, well positioned/designed cup holders, 3 power ports in the dash, 1 in the counsel.

The PSD more than makes up for the small amount of interior shortcomings.

My last GM was bought in 1992 and I changed to Ford in 1995. I hope this sheds some light on people when I post defending the 6.0 because I have seen both sides.
And just problems did the D-Max have in 1992-1995?

However I see very few powerstrokes traded off for Dmaxes. Its hard to compete with a superduty with all the interior room it has. Ive been in both trucks and the GM is pretty cramped for space. Superduty owners are the most loyal out there as odds are if you have had one youll get another one. I always tell my GM friends you got to get a Ford to get a real truck. There pretty staunch though most off them like those superduties. How can you not like them. There the best truck on the road today. GMs going to always have that stigma off a bad diesel reputation like they have had for so many years. I was just over on the Chevy forum where the Ford guy here had the last post. Interesting to see the responce there. Looks like some die hard Ford guys on that thread. Yah.
I would have to disagree with this whole-heartedly. From what I've seen the Duramax diesel share continues to grow and it's rare to find Duramax's on lots vs the PSD.

'Stigma of a bad diesel' Come on! If it wasn't for the Duramax you Ford guys might still be driving around in a 7.3 litres and 4 speed auto's [if it weren't for emissions of course] GM changed the light-duty diesel sigment forever and it's just been over the last year Ford has finially caught up and surpassed them. I'm guessing that 'king-of-mountain' thing will go back and forth for years to come.

Yeh DMAX its a tug off war between the two isnt it. But Ford really changed the diesel landscape back when the powerstroke debuted in 1994. That engine was years ahead off any diesel available at the time. GM had nothing to compete with until 2001 when the Dmax came out So now GMs gaining market share again. Although Id have to say. Its hard to compete with the superduty truck. The interior room is awesome. GMs more cramped though they have an exceellent crewcab as well. Injector problems are still plaguing the Dmax however. I hear there there on backorder as well. Now theres my Ford baised opinion an honest one at that.

D-Max to answer your question. If you look close to what I posted, the problems still exist with GM trucks excluding the engine and transmission. My last truck from GM was in 1992. Electrical, body, hardware, IFS is still a joke. Read through the forums in Chevrolet and you will see the issues.

Duramax is a whole new issue with the great Allison. People think the 6.0’s are a problem, surf over and start reading.

I left GM because they never listened to my thoughts. Same problems I had in 1992 are still a quality issue in 2004. I have seen both sides, so I am titled to my opinion. If GM would have had a buy back I would have been the first in line to receive a new truck, unfortunately the district manager eluded me. Playing games is not what I wanted.

If my answer does not satisfy you, I can drag you around the in the dirt arguing for years. I averaged buying a new vehicle from GM every 2.5 years since mid 70’s. Think I qualify to speak my mind?

I worked for GM a couple years that was enough to make me never own one. Worked for Ford 23 years wont consider anything else. I have to admit I did make the huge mistake of buying a Kia.It makes a good flower pot.
I have a friend who bought a Dmax not long ago havent heard from him since he may be broke down somewhere.
But I have to say the die hard greif and misery lovers will swear after 10 engines 14 transmissions 2 or 3 rear ends and ball joints etc and thats in the first 12,000 miles they will still swear its the best vehicle they ever owned.
But let them buy a Ford and if it has a flat tire in the first 100,000 miles its the biggest peace of junk they ever owned.

Sorry not trying to start a flame war just my observations from being a shop foreman for several years.

I second that.
I had an 03 Denali for 6 months 8k miles, in that time it had the exhaust replaced, ignition, battery, carpet, drivers seat, ac compressor, condenser, rear radio controls, power folding mirrors switch, alignment. Can't remember anymore bad things that happened to that thing.
