If you like to have a trendy unit and have money to blow, go for it. My folks have one and love it. It's a great unit but there's others out there that are double the space for significantly less in price. I went with a Creative Labs Zen Jukebox, 30gb for only $200. If you equate that size/price ratio to Ipod terms, it's like a gazillion dollars...
The one I got works great as an external hard drive and the software is easy to use too.
My iPod Mini pops and hisses all the time. I have found out through internet searches that is a very common problem for the Mini. Unfortunatly I can't find my receipt, never registered it after I bought it, basically I'm screwed.

I got one last year. My dad won it at a computer confrence. It's not bad, but I filled it up too fast. Hopefully it'll work nice for riding snowmobile this year. Hehe.
I've been looking for a thread like this! I'm trying to find something for my kid who is much into his music and have been looking around for these. I was just told that by going eith the I-pod that you get locked into a certain (apples) kind of format. Is this true? I think that they are overpriced so I have been looking for something by iRiver (370H). It also stores pics. Been to a lot of stores today and am having no luck. Where do you find these things?
I ended up getting a mini-ipod....hold 4 gigs....about 1000 songs.
You can look for them at wal-mart, Bestbuy, all over in any store that has electronics.
The Apple versions (ipod) are compatable with Macs and Window based computers. They are very cool....but a bit more expensive then Rio/Sony and other brands.
Yep if you get an iPod, you can download iTunes for windows and use it through a firewire port. Well, that's how mine works anyway, not sure if they redid for the new ones.
if i'm gonna spend that much for 40 gigs i want something i can watch movies
for 50$ g/f has a discman plays mp3's... i can fit about 100 songs on a disc. i listen to the history of the world audio series in my car stereo. one disc lasts about a month
iRiver H320 has an FM tuner, bought it for the wife. 20Gigs, I ripped 55 CD's to it and used about 1.4 gigs on the HD. Paid 349.00 at Best Buy. Sounds OK but the FM reception is very shaky..the antenna is the earphones. The downside of my situation, she wanted a CD player to listen to music at work. A 30 dollar CD player could be left at work and nobody would bother with it. She could listen to a new CD a coworker might have. As far as swapping music back and forth, she'll have to borrow the friends CD to bring it home and rip it. the iRiver player can't be left alone, She didn't get a CD player but an expensive gadget that can't be left laying around or left at work overnite. It is too small and easy to palm(steal).
