I was sitting here wishing I had the money so I could afford a new Dell that might actually work better than my "not-so-friendly" Gateway, and the question came to me; what brand of PC does everyone here use?
Here's what I run: Gateway Select Series 1400. I don't know the specifics right off hand, but when I got it two years ago for college, it was one of the better ones. It does it's job, for the most part, but I'd still like something that won't give me so much trouble. I think it would be a pretty good computer if it wasn't running WinME.
I have had 3 HP's now. They are a decent cpu for the price, but my next will be a Dell. The HP's seem really finicky, my cpu is not happy unless you restart it once a day, and reformat it every six months.
I have a Dell, this is the first PC I have ever had(I had MAC before).
My Dell is a Dimension 4400, 2.0Ghz, 512Mb Ram, 20Gb HD, 64Mb video Ram(would like to upgrade this). I have never had a problem with my Dell unless I did something stupid like mess with the registery, but hey how are you supposed to learn When I have called customer service they were very quick to answer my question and change what I needed(made mistake when ordering). I have had to contact their financing Dept and they were very friendly and quick to handle my problem. Talking about leaving it on, mine runs for 10 days before I notice the slow down. If I had to buy another PC it would be a Dell!
You turn your computer off? Wow. I don't know when I did that last. I think last month...?
I have an HP Pavilion, Wal Mart Special. Bought it for $799 a year ago, made a few upgrades, (knock on wood) seems to work fine for me. Well, now that I got rid of all the useless bundled junk it came with.
Anyone have one of those Sony models? The fancy expensive jobbers? Don't remember the name but it looked nice.
An Emachine Desktop, with win 98 se
A Gateway Desktop with win 98 se
A home made, for music editing with win 98 se
A Dell Laptop, with win XP he
A home made with win 98 se for Slik
a couple of ancillary lap tops, with win 98 se
another dell laptop with Win 2000
I hate all of them, and they will eventually kill me. I know this, accept this, and hope it is not soon.
All of my current machines have been built by me and my son from parts purchased at NewEgg. My son has built many machines for other friends etc also. I think NewEgg counts me as a very good customer. I think we ran ~$500 thru there so far this week.
"Other" - I've got an Alienware. I will never waste my money on any other brand.
Performance is (was; it's 2 years old now, but still runs pretty fast!) unbelievable, components are top notch, and any time something breaks (or just doesn't work to my satisfaction), they send me an upgraded replacement via 2 day FedEx at no cost.
I got mine from a military finacing company that makes clones. Have had many problems in the beginning. But now that I have learned from all the mistakes my wife and I made. During the process we've replaced every component and added DVD burner and hard drives and we're left with an awesome system that's very reliable, and I know every in and out of it now installing the OS platform quite a few times.
Vega P-3, 1024mb RAM, 40gb & 16gb HDD, 3.5" FDD, 52x24x52 CD-R/RW, Audigy Sound Card, J-S Digital Series Speaker System, 3D Rage IIC AGP, DEC VE-19 Monitor, UMAX-ASTRA Scanner, HP 930, DSL-10/100net card D-Link Modem.
Perfectly good old clunker but I think I'm ready for a G-5 Power Mac. I can only stand to pay Bill of the Borg Gates so much $ then I must rebel. I think MS has changed there op sys 14 times to 5 times for Mac. I can live with that and I don't game anyway so that's no issue. Maybe I just won't be assimilated. Go figure?
JK
ps: I also have an IBM Thinkpad P-2, 256mb RAM, 60gb HDD, 3.5" FDD. Just my work machine nothing fancy.
