Watching the news here in Indy. The USPS announced they suspended service in some areas because they could not safely get the mail from the main sorting hub downtown to the outlying PO's because of the snow.
And the postal carriers were instructed to not go thru high snowfall to get to the mailboxes.
Which leads me to ask, whatever happened to "Neither Rain nor Sleet nor snow ...." ?
I wonder if UPS and Fed-Ex have also suspended service? Don't get me wrong - no mail delivery is worth risking ones life for but I can see the ommercials from UPS and Fed-Ex now if they get deliveries through when the USPS does not!
What can Brown do for your when all you can see is White?
By the way - the snow missed central Illinois went south and then swept up north east! Still cold tho!
I suspect it has more to do with lawsuits than common sense. My postal service won't get out of the truck to deliver a letter in clear, calm weather. A neighbor of mine once parked in front of my mail box and I didn't get mail for a week. I didn't know the local USPS has a rule about not delivering to any mailbox if they can't reach it from their trucks.
