Remote Start - 04

I was wondering if anyone had successfully put a remote start system in their 04 explorer and if so, did it require a lot of disassembly of the ignition components. I was looking to see if there was a OEM system from Ford.

I just installed mine a little while ago, installed a code alarm two way only because of the range. but I used to do this sort of thing for a living so if your not to sure how to do it, dont take it to a aftermarket place and get them to doit. And dont wast your money with the Stealer they will charge you more money for less features. Go to an authorized Code Alarm Dealer and have them do the install, I used to sell code alarm in my store and I have it on both my BMWs, and my Explorer. I would not use anything else but code. Side note they are the manufacture of Ford, GM & Chrysler factory alarms. Ford even says that on their spec sheets, they do it in really small print but it does.

Yes, ford does have several ones as aftermarket accessories - here is the link: Remote start links

Hope that helps, I had an aftermarket one on my '93. It worked pretty well, you just had to remember to put the key in as soon as you got in, because if your foot even just grazed either pedel (gas or brake) it would shut off. The remote also stopped working, but before that it worked great.

Hey happy holidays guys!!

My wife bought me a remote start system for my '99 Explorer - a Prestige.

Anyone have experiences with this brand?

Thanks,
Rick

I had a aftermarket remote starter installed in my 04 XLT last February and it works great The remote says "Coolstart" on it but I can't remember if that's the actual brand. I believe the installer used an uncut programmed key that is located somewhere inside the dash to allow it to start.

Ford does offer their own remote starter which the dealer can install, but my experience with them has been mixed (I was told Ford doesn't even make them). The one my dad has on his 00 Explorer works good but the one that was in my 98 Explorer didn't work very well. The range sucked. I'm so happy to have a remote now that starts my truck from anywhere.

Hope this helps.

I just installed the valet 561T by DEI. it was very easy (it helped that I found the wiring diagram from ford online) it took me about 4 hours, the only down side is you have put one of your keys in a box under the dash.
