I didn/t know there was an oem one but I wouldn't do it myself. If you mess it up you might not find the problem plus you make it unreliable, and probably void the warranty on that part.
No i paid a entrepreneur $275.00 to come to my house on a saturday to supply and install
a compustar remote start. It took him a couple of hours to complete the job!
What year is your truck and does it have the pats system (passive anti theft)? Back in the day they used to have to get an extra key programmed and tape it to the pats unit so the remote start would work.
Bowels of the dash. Clearly labeled if memory serves me correctly. I found mine when I was rooting around for the door code one day. They key only has to be in the vicinity anyway, is my understanding. I'm told the aftermarket has work arounds these days but it's been years since I followed that stuff.
Well I only have one key for my truck so I might just do it so I can make a key for my wife and not have to go pay the dealership to program it for me. Just buy 4 keys from eBay, get them cut, put the original in the dash and the rest where they need to go for use
That's true. I never really thought of that. I only have one key too.
Just as a point of reference, I only had the 1 key when I bought my truck. I had a locksmith program 2 new keys and cut them. It was only $60. I'm not sure what the dealer charges but I'd bet it's not as cheap as a locksmith.
