Is there a good troubleshooting proceedure for a dead cruise control (88 Econoline 150, 302V8)? I tried the cruise control for the first time and got no response - where might I start to find out why? All the vacuum lines seem to be attached and undamaged, the electrical connection as well.
May not be the same but my cruise control problem turned out to be a blown 15amp fuse in the power distribution box under the hood, granted this was on a 95 model F150.
is your horn working? if so, might be a broken cruise control cable, brake pedal vacuum dump valve (small plunger type device with a big vacuum line attached near the brake pedal pad arm) broken or out of adjustment. Vehicle speed sensor and/or wiring to it (mine wasn`t working because the wiring was missing!) VSS is located on the transmission. Make sure all electrical connections are CLEAN!
Check the other thread on cruise control from about two weeks ago or so. I had the same problem as 95 F150 on my 95 E150. Same engine as your 88, but not sure what else is similiar.
I just found my thread - sorry I posted it in the wrong spot - since it was moved I haven't received notification of all your responses.
I haven't noticed a power distribution box under the hood as yet but all my fuses under the dash check out ok. How do I test the switches in the streering wheel - must I take the top apart or can I test for continuity at another point along the connection?
My horn is working and I will check to see if the control cable is broken or the vacuum line or dump valve are o.k.
Is there a seperate connection to ther VSS in the trany or does it all go through the harness?
Thanks!!
