I have a 1994 F350 7.3 diesel 5 speed manual transmission, my cruise control has completely stopped - nothing doing with any buttons, dead.
This truck is completely original, no amateur rewiring. I have the diesel supplement shop manual, but there is nothing in there for cruise control troubleshooting. Can anyone suggest a reasonable troubleshooting procedure for me?
Any lights on? Check engine, sealtbelt/airbag, ABS ?
If your seatbelt/airbag light is flashing (esp a 3-2 code) then you likely have a bad clockspring in the steering wheel. Its about a $100 dealer only item.
Well, sorry to say none of those - I have a few warning lights at initial "key on", they quickly clear away. Speedo reads steadily, just completed 2500 mile trip. Everything works perfectly except cruise control.
I will check the brake pedal switch - there should be an early "kick off" switch in that linkage that comes in before the brake lights to trip the cruise control off, but beyond that I don't know what else to look for. Any other ideas?
Thanks for your interest - I appreciate your help and ideas.
Problem is now solved, cruise control is working perfectly. Turned out it was a defective clutch start safety switch, located on master cylinder pushrod under the dash. This switch has two circuits - one to disable cruise control when the clutch is depressed, 2nd to prevent starter operation until clutch pedal is on the floor.
