I'm trying to figure out what speakers came in my truck. It's an 2002 F150 with am/fm tape deck and 4 speakers. I'd like to figure out how many watts the speakers can handle so I'll know whether to upgrade them when I put in a new head unit. I got a quote for a new system today and I'm not sure if the whimpy speakers he quoted me are any better than the stock ones. The ones he quoted will handle 40 watts continuous.
The stock 5X7's handle 25W at 4 ohms, not sure if thats continous or peak, either way if you are going to spend the money to upgrade the HU, it doesn't make sense to keep the stock speakers. If you're on a tight budget you can pick up some pioneers that will sound good and won't break the budget. You might get more technical info down at the audio/video forum.
Depending on how you measure speakers, you will have 6x8's or 5x7's (same speaker just measured differently).
The Pioneer 6870 3-ways make an excellent replacement speaker, and drop right into the stock openings on almost all Fords...you can get them at wally world for ~56 a pair or at BestBuy for $76.
I just stuffed a sirrus ready kenwood Hu and 4 pioneer 6870 3 ways in my wifes 02 Explorer for roughly $250....imo money well spent over the stock setup.
I picked up the same speakers for my F-150, but I haven't decided if I want to ditch the HU, as I really like the speed volume adjust on the factory hu.

i've got 2 way 200 watters in mine with a 10 inch sub, 1000 watt 5 channel amp and a
jvc deck. looks good sounds great! the stock stuff is ok for adequate sound at lower volume but does'nt deliver the punch the after market stuff does.

That would be Walmart. They are 6x8 speakers, 25W. I have 2 of the 3way Pioneers in the front of my truck. They have a little more treble than the stockers.
