I'm on the market looking for a 03 EXP and I saw in the forum that this model has had several issues but I like it anyway.
What are the most common to be aware before buying?
Crappy brake pads. Well...they stop fine, they just dust a lot.
Crappy tires.
Limited slip problems in some (not mine though)
Doors rattling. (Driver's side in my case) TSB issued to "solve" problem.
Body cladding fading. Can be replaced under warranty.
Will not "peel out" on dry pavement because it is an overweight, underpowered soccer-mom mobile. I still like mine though...I like Christopher Titus wife's truck better.
Thank you xixp! Is it possible to find this TSB anyplace, because I have big problem with all my doors about rattling/shacking? The dealer I purchased my of, will not accept my contention/sense.
I purchased a 2003 Eddie Bauer Expedition 5.4 V8 in August of 2002 and I have had the door rattling but that was fixed with a Special Service Bulletin that I just happened to find, not a TSB. I also had the reverse mirror problem and that was corrected with a TSB. Other than that, my Expedition has been great. I also haven't had the whining problem in the rearend or the front and I haven't had the cladding fading because the Eddie Bauer tan cladding doesn't fade like the XLT black cladding, not sure why, but it doesn't. My brakes also do not produce huge amounts of brake dust like most peoples either. As a matter of fact, my '03 hasn't had as many problems as my friend's '04. All in all, I love my Expedition and if I had to trade right now, I would get another Expedition. I say go for it.
Here is the TSB regarding the reverse tilt mirrors, I think this only calls for the memory module to be replaced, however, if this doesn't correct the problem, the mirror motors need to be replaced because the gears were more than likely stripped when the mirrors were popping at the extremes.

Thanks to everybody, this has been very helpful.
All this repairs should appear in a CARFAX history? Just to have a way to verify if the truck has had all the updates.
Carfax won't do anything except tell you whether it is a salvage or not and previous title transfers. Have the dealer run an OASIS report to find out what has been fixed on the vehicle.
Can anyone tell me if the reverse mirror tilt was an option? I just bought an 03 EB Expy and would like to know if my mirrors are suppose to tilt when I go into reverse.
