My wife just called me on my 2004 Explorer 4.0L. It had trouble starting. Yesterday and today.. It cranked for 5-7 seconds both times before starting.
it happened only twice.
She pumped the gas (although I told her it does not matter)
She also noted a "burning" smell. Hopefully not the starter.
Called dealer.. they said to bring it in for codes...
Ill be trying to reproduce the problem tonight.
Any other experiences on this?
Between the transmission issues, bad speed sensor, bad solenoid, bad battery
I am really questioning the overall health of this vehicle.
Ford Service ran a check for codes.. and found nothing wrong. It has not happened since.
This is the 5th time this car has been back to the dealership in 10 months since I bought it.
While I was waiting, I went and spoke to the Sales Manager and told him the history I had regarding the transmission issues, dead battery, and now the starting anomolies.
He gave me his card and said if I want to claim "lemon" he will work with me. I am hoping these "nits" work themselves out. But they havent yet and I am out of patience. This car has no more chances. I still have my 1994 Explorer XLT with 100,200 miles on it. I have it since new and have had ZERO problems with it. Why did I buy a new one and invite this aggravation!!. I am very discouraged with the new Explorers reliability .. so much so.. that I test drove a 2004 Toyota 4Runner. I never thought I would.. but what am I to do!!!!!!!!!
My wife just called me with the exact same problem and she did the same thing, pumped the gas and it started. '04 4.0 V-6. This is the second or third time it has done this. The limited slip went out at 10k, the trans started messing up a couple months ago right before the Ford letter arrived. Now this. What ended up being your problem?
