360 Upgrade Questions
A few months ago I picked up a 73 f100 4WD Pickup with a 360 and four speed. It has been very interesting to me to learn about the Fords and FE motors.
The pickup is in a very stock configuration. Single exhaust, factory 2bbl carb, stock manifolds etc....
I'm planing on upgrading the motor over time or as needed (I already did the heads). I plan on going to dual exhaust and aventually getting a crank and rods from a 390 (Long term plan here).
I was talking to a friend of mine the other day. He told me he has a stock 4bbl intake for an FE and he told me I could have it.
So, my question. Keeping in mind that I will be putting on dual exhaust sometime soon, would a cast iron 4bbl intake with carb help the 360 at all? If it would help, what would be a good carb that would also handle a 390 conversion? Or, should I save the intake for my 390 conversion? Or, tell him no thanks?
Another bit of information I should share is what I'm going to use the truck for. I have a 3500lb 21 foot travel trailer I will be towing during the summer for occasional weekend camping trips. In other words, I'm not going to be building a "hot" motor for this rig.
Many Thanks!
Jeremy
Definately get headers and dual exhaust. The stock exhaust manifolds suck.
Use the 4bbl intake with a Holley 670 street avenger. Get header and 2.5" dual exhaust into some hiflow (loud) mufflers. You might also want to look into the electronic ignition conversions...
When you get around to the 390 conversion, you'll be good to go in all other respects.
Have fun.
