2bbl-4bbl conv plate or other plan?

I have a 75-f100 360 with a 2 bbl on it. The carb has some issues and I would like to get rid of it. At this time I want to keep the engine stock as I learn how to work on these beasts(Wife and I are newbies). Later maybe go with a build up to a 390. I was thinking of getting a plate to go with a new 4 bbl as this is what I would use if I was buildiing the engine up. Money is tight and I am learning how to work with engines, so I am looking for the most bang for the $$$ plus ease of work.

Should I go with a plate to put a new 4bbl on it or should I get a stock intake from a 390 for it? If I go the adapter route is there any sites that has one listed on line. Also any carb recommendations?

Let's see, money is tight, which means no proper aluminum performance manifold right now. No decent leak-free 4bbl either.

Rather than whiz your tight money away on an adaptor or rusted out stock manifold, which you will curse the day it was cast trying to change, just find a good Ford big-bore 2bbl and bolt it up. These carbs are simple, easy to rebuild, and like sand on the beach. Is your stocker beyond rebuild? Trade for an over the counter rebuild.

A 4bbl running into a 2bbl manifold may run better than a bad 2bbl, but it isn't "the answer".

IMO, based on recollections of my tight money 2bbl years.

Well like I said I am a bit green at this. When I bought the truck the guy said it was rebuilt the prior spring.

One of the reasons for getting a 4bbl was the fact that I have never worked on a carb before. So I thought of just starting out with a decent one and learn on one I might keep for many years, or as long as I have the truck. Just didnt want to get a new 2bbl and later in a year or two get rid of it.

Intake and a card will probably cost +$700. Correct?

Well... An FE 4-barrel intake is very easy to find. In fact, I've got one sitting in my garage right now that I'm not using, along with a holley 600cfm 4-barrel, calibrated for the 360 that I used to run.

Anyway, 4-barrel intakes can be had from DSC for $50+ shipping, and a 600cfm Holley is $206 from Jeg$. They can be had elsewhere cheaper.

Wow!! I must have some over priced catalogs. Do you have any links to the catalog items?? Which intake do you recommend? I was leaning towards the 600cfm Holley carb based on what I have read.

Are you interested in getting rid of yours(carb and intake)?? I would be more than happy to take a trip down south!!

Just remember, shipping on an 85lb intake isn't cheap. Your as well off searching the local wrecking yards.

Well, technically we're not supposed to be buying / selling stuff on these boards. I was just using the fact that I have one to show how common they are. But if you really want them, I'd probably take $200 for the intake and carb. Send me a PM or email if you're interested.

The $50 one I mentioned is a simple cast iron stock 4-barrel used intake, which is what I have.

i bought one of those carb adapters and they work well i ran a 600 cfm holley on my 2bbl intake it was a increase in performance but once the 4 bbl intake went on there was a huge jump in performance i am running a adapter right now on my edelbrock 4bbl intake with a motor craft 2100 carb and i can tell you there is no poer difference that i can tell and it is sure nice to get away from the troubled holley carb.
