Tailgate problems
I have an 82' with some tailgate window problems. It goes down without a problem, however when I try to get it back up, there is just a clicking noise. Any ideas, before I rip into it?

Motor gearing. The gearhead on the motor has a large nylon gear mounted to the steel gear that drives the window regulator. The mounting method is three nylon/plastic dowels that hold the gear in place on a triangular cam. The parts are available from JBG and several others. Some have replaced the nylon dowels with metal ones however this defeats the purpose of having the nylon ones in there. When the window stalls or hits an obstacle for some reason the nylon dowels are designed to crush allowing the gear to move even if the window won't. This keeps from stripping the whole gear. The nylon ones will eventually just fail from old age and you have to replace them. Sounds like what you are dealing with. Won't hurt to check the tracks and the regulator while you are at it just to make sure the window isn't hangin up inside and causing undue drag on the gearhead.
