Adjusting idle

I have a 4.9. With the spout connector unplugged the truck runs at 650 RPM at idle. With it plugged in it runs at 500 RPM at idle. Whats going on? Also we noticed a slight exhaust leak near the mechanical valve on tge exhaust manifold that worsens when the spout is plugged in. Any ideas

Do you mean the egr valve?

If you are, then you need to take care of that before you move on, any vacuum leak will only make diagnosis of the problem harder.

What codes are you getting now?

It would be a good time to get a multi-meter and a haynes manual (at any autoparts store) for your truck. It will give you procedure in which you can test the egr valve, two solenoids, as well as the IAC and TPS, and a couple things dealing with the ecm. Good luck

PS. I suppose you've determined that the distributor wasn't 180 out, correct?
