The ABS light on my 99 Ranger 4x4 came on shortly after I drove over a small section of washboard road and it's been this way for several weeks. I finally found the time to remove, inspect, clean and reinstall the rear axle speed sensor and the two front wheel sensors and the problem still exists. The wiring harness and electrical connectors showed no signs of physical damage. The ABS light is still on after several drive cycles.
Looks like I need to pull fault codes. I don't have a factory shop manual and my aftermarket manual doesn't explain where or how to pull the codes. Can someone please tell me what the ABS test connector looks like and where it is located on my 99. What is the procedure for extracting the fault codes? A previous posting mentioned placing jumpers in two locations, is one of these locations the longer ECU connector located on the passenger side of the firewall? Is there a reset procedure to clear the ABS light or does it automatically clear when the fault is corrected?
On the newer 4w abs ssytems the codes are pulled off the same port as the engine codes, the connector at the bottom of the dash. You also need the ford NGS tester to get the codes. I don't know of any other tester that will pull the ABS codes. It sounds like you have done about all that you can do. Maybe someone else will have something for you, but it looks like a trip to the dealer is in your future.

Forgot to mention that I had tried to pull the codes with my Auto XRay code scanner/reader but it doesn't support the ABS system. As Dave stated I'll have to head over to the dealer for that. I'll take a look at the wiring harness first.
Ken & Rockledge: Thanks for the hints and threads regarding the wiring harness.
