JC Whitney has a couple of pages full in the print catalog. Most auto parts stores should have "engine analyzers" etc.

What are you going to be using it for?

Don't need a engine analyzer just a hand tack.

Ryan,I use it to set idle speed and carbs.

I don't see why you couldn't get a $15 Sunpro tach and wire it up with some nice jumpers with aligator clips on the end. You'd just clamp them to the battery posts for power and one to the coil or tach output. Put a high powered magnet on the base and you could stick it anywhere while you tune the engine. That is if you can't find an actual handheld unit.

Look into Grainger, they carry both contact and non-contact tachometers. Type in tachometer in the search box, should pull up four pages.

My Digital VOM will work also. The cheapo engine analyzer Dwell/Tach meters are $35. I have a handheld D/T unit that is about 35 years old that still works.

Here are some other units found with a Google search for dwell tach
http://www.partbuypart.com/store/pro...Product_ID=845 -$30 US
http://gateway.canadiantire.ca/drive...5524442132073_ -$30 Canadian
Here is one on eBay for $5.00 item # 4507874216

Seems like they are easy to find...

Well if thats what your using it for, and you don't already have a dial back to zero timing light, you could get one of those with a tach. I bought one for setting timing and idle speed on harleys. Don't konw how I ever got along without it. They are kinda spendy, but well worth it to me.

just thought of something, Fluke make an automotive specific digital meter.

Model 88 and you will need the RPM80 inductive pickup to do rpm.

I have a Tif 780 photo tachometer that works well. The only problems I have with it is it won't read the tape on silver colored pulleys, have to paint them flat black, and if you get more than 45* off the reflective tape it looses the signal. You don't hook it up to any thing, just put the reflective tape on what your trying to read. Its great for small engines.
