The Bone Creeper

I'm looking for a new creeper for my shop. Has anyone used the Bone Creeper? I've always been intrigued by this creeper vs. the cheap wood creeper I have or the really nice luxury Mac creeper I once had. What about the Rough Rider version, which they claim can roll over gravel? Is the bone creeper comfortable and how low is it to the ground compared to other creepers?

Any comments on this particular creeper or other good ones would be well appreciated.

Thanks,

Jesse

I have had the same wooden one for........40 years. I have my doubts about a creeper that works on gravel.

fore 25+ years I have used the oak creepers......well my present one is starting to fall apart (wheels are tired after 15 years). My wife just ordered me the bone for my b-day. I'm hoping the extra length will increase the stability and comfort when I'm getting up and laying down.

I use a Lisle "jeepers creeper" -6 wheels, very thick plastic construction, Not any more comfy than a wooden one, but mant times tougher. I even ran over it once with no ill effect.

I've used the Bone Creeper in the past, and loved it. It molds to your body in almost an ortho-pedic fashion(did for me at least) and it's large wheels don't get stuck on all the clutter that can sometimes end up on a shop floor. Loved it, and would grab one myself. The one I used was borrowed from a friend.

Let me know how the bone works out.

I currently live in a house that has such a small garage that I have to work outside on very coarse asphalt/graval/cracks, etc. so normal creepers are just not working for me. Lately I have been tearing up my shirts, blankets, my back, etc. The bone could be my savior if it could perform well on very rough ashpalt. It bites not having a big shop.

I have a nice, padded Craftsman creeper that I bought a couple of years ago, but to be honest I rarely use it. I bought a couple of packs of those 1/2" thick, interlocking 2'x2' foam mats and have become addicted to using them. During a project, we'll have a dozen of them scattered around/under the car. Especially nice when kneeling on the ground working under the dash...

I use a thick moving blanket, and just bitch about my back afterwards This results from a nice shoulder massage from my wife.

I have the Rough Rider

I bought the Bone Rough Rider because I was annoyed at my other two "jamming" on extension cords, hoses, small tools, etc. Its a nice enough creeper but, I am 6'3", and its about 10-12" too short. If I want lay my head on the "pillow", my butt hangs off the other end. I wish they made a "Longfellow". It is also heavy, but is molded in such a way that the balance point is a decent handgrip for carrying. It is pricey, but seems very well made.

I used to work with a guy that had one. He loved it. So did I. That thing would roll over just about anything, including gravel that fell out of an empty dump truck. My only complaint was it could have used some padding instead of just plastic.

On the other hand, my brother in law has a Snap On creeper a bit wider and longer than a 40" with 4 or 5" casters. Someone drove a Hino onto it and the thing still rolled like brand new.

Thanks everyone, in the mean time, since I can't find a shop with a Bone creeper in it, I'll stick to blankets for now. I am leary about the bone now, as I am also 6'3", 235lbs, maybe it's to small for me. I'll wait untill I run into one some day to decide--it does sound good though, nothing irritates me more then getting hung up on wrenches and cords. The foam idea sounds like a good one too.

Well, my Bone Creeper arrived today. Bolted the wheels on and tried it out. I have to admit, despite my prejudice views, there is a difference between a $20 and $100 creeper. The bone rolls very smoothly with the higher $ wheels, almost zero effort even when changing directions. The contour shape fits the body just like a mold, top, bottom and sides- which is what also give extra support when rolling. It is also nice that it is about 8+ inches longer, you just fit better on it and it is much more stable when getting on and off the creeper.

The only negative- the head rest is comfortable but I like a thicker pad and it keeps the head very orthopediacally level but I am going to make a thicker pad to elevate my head up a little.

BTW, I'm 5'9"....if you are well over 6'2", it migh actually feel a little small for you because of the wrap design.

It seems to me that I saw a ad for the bone creeper and it comes in two sizes regular and large. I don't have one but have thought about getting one also. At 6'-4 I'm pretty sure I'll get the large version.
