First of all, i want to say what an awsome community the FTE is!!!and i'm not sucking up, this is a fact. i have never seen a message board packed with vital informations like this one.i discovered this website coincidentely, about 2 months ago, looking for informations to keep in mind while looking for a ford ranger, and i've been visiting the FTE since.this is a lighthouse for lost boats indeed!! keep up the good work and god bless you all.
my question is related to the air intake for the ranger splash 93, 3.0L V6 that i just got. .
i noticed that the truck is not very powerful for a V6. so i was thinking to put a new air inductions system, change the fuel filter.i already replaced the spark plugs.
the problem is, it's hard to find an air inductions system for a ford ranger 93, 3.0L v6.
i went on motorhaven website, and i found an air inductions system for 1998 - 2003 Ford Ranger 3.0L V6 .
my question is: would it fit in my truck since it's a 3.0L?
i would be thankful if anybody could me, or show me a website where i can get it.
You guys rock!!!!!
good question, i'm in the same boat. although my 3.0 on my '97 does give me good preformance. a little more can never hurt. i can't seem to find many air intakes for the 3.0 engine their all for the 4cyl or 4.0.
actually duh on me i asked about this a little while back,

hi techguy21801,
i find it very unfair that they don't make air intake kits for the 93 ranger 3.0L V6, it's not an old model or anything ,but, go figure.
good luck with your baby.
Check out this site: http://www.cosmoracing.com/ I have a '98 Ranger and bought a short ram intake from them for about $90. I installed it, then went to Pep Boy's and bought a flex tube to extend the air filter down under the engine compartment. The only problem that I ran into was I had to fabricate a braket to mount to the radiator to hold the intake above the alternator pulley, without rubbing against it. I haven't rated it yet, but I can definatley tell a difference in horsepower. I've also replaced all the oxygen sensors, fuel filter, egr valve, plugs & wires, etc. This'll make a big difference, especially if you're running stock tire sizes. Goodluck!

look at street smart design (use your search engine) and they have 3.0 stuff for 95 and later. the only differences that I am aware of is the upper radiator hose is higher on the older models. I put their system on my 94 4.0 and it still just a bolt in. They did tell me that they were not sure if it fit but I tell ya it does and all I ended up adding was a bracket off the aircleaner to the front radiator support.
Also bear in mind the 3.0 is not really a strong engine performance wise. I am guessing that it can be made to perform but it wont be cheap.

Black Stallion93-
Theres a small nipple on the under side of the chrome pipe for the oil hose. The package from cosmo includes the chrome pipe (which you can buy an OEM at almost any autoparts store), a rubber hose for the oil breather, an adapter (which you can't buy anywhere!, except one of these aftermarket packages) for connecting the pipe to the MAF. Also, the package includes two rubber sleeves, one for connecting to the adapter, the other to the block. An air filter is also included. The only problem, other than the braket that I ran into was connecting the air filter to the flex tube. Of course this was not a design flaw in the air intake from Cosmo. But I came up with a rather simple (if not redneck) fix. I went to Lowes and bought a piece of PVC pipe, actually a coupling, that was threaded on both ends. Only trick was finding the right size. I cut the threads off of one end, and slipped it into the flex tube, and used a pipe clamp. Then the threaded end goes into the filter, and again a pipe clamp. No problem after that. Aslo, if you go this route, I recommend buying a filter bidet. This is a metal "jacket" that the filter fits into. This will keep the mud from building up on the filter, thereby reducing air flow. Pep Boys sells them for about $25. So...grand total for all, the package, the PVC, the flex tube, and the bidet...$150. This also changes the sound of hte motor a bit too, makes it "growl" just a bit more.
But, keep in mind, they claim this will increase your gas mileage. Don't count on it! It'll decrease it most likely, cause with the extra power you'll be getting on it alot more often. I've got a bit of a lead foot, so the extra power is just a bit too tempting to me!

i have a 1997 2.3 ranger and although i noticed that they make an air system for my truck i decided it would be cheaper and more fun to custom make one.. it took about 2-3 hours and it was well worth it.. painted the pipe and everything looks great... if ya want to know what i used just ask

Hi black stallion93,
I have a 1996 Mazda 3.0L with a Street Smart cool air system and it works great. They also have pictures of their products posted at the website. You may also want to pick up a Truckin magazine, they always have tons of adds.
