Upgrades

i have a 2003 ranger, 3.0 liter, 5 speed manual. it has about 25k on it. i have about $600 to spend for upgrades and i was wondering what would be the most productive. i already have a mac air inductions air intake and flowmaster cat-back exhaust, and now i'm unsure on what else would help. i want more power, torque, and mpg. any ideas?

and last question: the manual in my ranger talks about shifting. they say for the best fuel economy you should shift at 10mph, 21 mph, 32 mph, and 41 mph. is this true or is this just ruining the transmission? what would be the best speed or rpm to shift at in the city for best fuel economy?

IMO, at this point a chip would be the best upgrade if you want better performance. Keep in mind that more power and torque almost always comes at the expense of mpg, especially on an engine that essentially was designed in the early-mid 80's.

For best fuel economy, the manual is probably pretty close to accurate.

I would go with the jba headers, not a bad install and they are of pretty good quality

$447 for the chrome plated.
Here is the link:

They are pretty expensive but it is to be expected when it is a product that lacks the demand to produce like mustang headers and there is a lack of compettition in the 3.0 market as well.
