Are all the PSD's that are in a colder climate slow to warm up? Don't want to buy a winterfront so was thinking about a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator. Don't have a thermostate problem as eventually it gets to midrange and the heater is blowing hot air. Takes about 4 miles of highway speed before the gauge starts to rise. Is this about normal? This is the first winter that I'm driving a Diesel so it's kinda new to me.(The old V-10 was toasty warm in 1 mile)
Not real enthused to go out and start it and let it warm up before the trip to work as I'd bet it would take 15 to 20 min at idle and besides, it would be 2:30 in the morning and I'd have to back it out of the garage (hard enought to get up at 3am ).
How much cardboard....50, 75% or what? Got any better ideas short of going back to a gasser ? Not NO, H*** NO!
Do you use your block heater? I have mine on a timer that turns the heater on about 3 AM . Leave for work about 6:30 . Have luke warm heater air right after starting engine. Takes about 5 miles to be completely warm according to gauge. I do also use a Lund cold air grill insert.
I had this problem so I did the homemade AIC mod. Works great gives good heat in about 5mins of running at 1500 rpm's. Even though the motor is warmed up still gotta take easy first couple of miles to warm the rest of the mechanicals ( rear, tranny).
plug it in at night. mine sets out all winter and its plugged in all night long. last thing you want is for a diesel to gel up on you. its a pain in the a**
These PSD's are very cold blooded, no doubt bout that. Luckily for me, I live in a climate where the problem is keeping it from overheating. Very mild winter down here.
