This is my fourth OBS Power Stroke that I have driven in the winter, and I don't recall ever really having heat. At least on this truck and my last one. I just figured that these things run really cool. It heats up eventually and when it does it's pretty warm so I figured that's just how they are.
I dropped in a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator about a month ago. Did warm up a bit quicker, but still not like I would think. Blocking off the whole radiator I'd expect for it to get HOT.
So I took some time with a break in the weather on Thursday to drop in a new T-Stat.
Holy cow, what a difference. I didn't suspect it was the stat becasue I could still get comfortable heat from it. But it was definitly the problem.
So, to those that block your radiators to try to get more heat, replace the stat, STAT!
Coldest we really see here is in the teen's, low twenties. I know some areas are below zero and I bet a cover helps in those temps.
i had put the cover on my truck because the idiot gauge shows alot lower in the winter than in the summer but i have hot heat that you have to turn down..... i still think i may end up trying a 203 stat
Mine has always thrown good heat. I did switch to a 203* just to bring up the engine temp a bit. When it hits -40, I need heat and I need it pretty quick. The wife and kids have next to no tolerance for a cold vehicle. I use a quilted winter front as well, not cardboard. I'd be more than likely to forget to take the cardboard out come spring.......

Just thought I'd pass this along...
Finally!!!!! Someone understands!!! Those in REALLY cold places (-15 and below) still may need a cold front but other wise you would be surprised how little of a gap in your stat will make a difference.
