Listen to both sides and make your own choice. On my 04 4x4 Harley edition, I installed the 65 tune Preditor and have never looked back since 7500 miles. Now has 30,000.

Just because one installs a "chip/tuner/box/gizmo" that kicks up the horsepower it doesn't automatically mean that the truck is going to be run full throttle from start up to shut down. It is nice to have more pulling power/throttle response when needed. I probably drive slower/more conservatively with the predator than I drove prior to installation. Haven't seen a real difference in MPG but I haven't trtied the 40HP setting yet. Also haven't seen 100HP until guages/exhaust. Personally I don't feel that I an abusing the vehicle at all. It's all in the control of the foot!

I understand all the concern about tuners; however I could completely destroy a motor through abuse and misuses, which goes for a 6.0 a Chevy or a Dodge, to name a few. The tuner does not destroy motors the human that is running the vehicle, can.
JB has it correct!

Tim,

yes, any mechanical object can be broken through misuse / abuse. Ford Motor Company considers the addition / modification of the original tune on the 6.0 to be abuse, and they are not alone. If you look at some of the DC / GM boards, its apparent that all three are taking that stance.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this statement, but: I feel that the guys who are installing power mods / tuners are more likely to abuse their trucks than those who do not. I cannot understand the need to take a truck to the dragstrip, jack it up, or lower it to the ground. I'm not going to say i'm right, you're wrong, but its my experiance that those mods will cost more to do & more to fix when they break, and hamper the resale value of the truck. Personalization is great, you just gotta pay for it, and I'd rather put the money in my house, not my rig.

Have fun guys, and try not to break any laws, huh?

My experience with free dealer oil change. Bought my wife an Accord, she took it over for the "free" oil change. Once it was done, she got to the window to get the keys, and she was informed the charge was $45. When she asked what it was for, it was explained it was $45 for labor, the "oil was free". After some healthy complaining (from her it was more like screaming) it was reduced down to $26, which is still more that what we can do with the quick oil change places we deal with now. So Buyer beware.

Tim, sorry to disagree but a chip or tuner can do damage if the people programming it made a mistake. I am not saying anything about the products for our truck but I have been into Buick Grand Nationals and some of the first generations after market chip either didn't put in enough fuel or didn't control timing or boost properly. I am sure that with technology changes this probably wouldn't happen here but human beings make mistakes and the people writing these programs are human. This is a great board and has helped many people but I know of a lot of people that would like to chat with you about your statement (The tuner does not destroy motors the human that is running the vehicle, can.) and not just in the Buick community.
