This is just my observation and you have to make the final decision for yourself. From what I have read here on this forum I believe that you are taking a chance on stretching the head bolts when running a tuner. You will get pros and cons on this but I would love to have one myself on my 05 but I also am willing to wait for the warranty to expire then do the head studs and egr delete and one of the famous Matt's tunes.

Why would you wait for your warranty to be up? I would rather have the $3k+ repair for HG's to be under warranty...........

Wow I knew cost of living in Va. was high, but that's almost double for stud work here even getting it done by a dealership(the dealership I go to is actually very competitive with the local shops, all of them are high, but atleast the dealership isn't higher).
On the 6.4 yes, on the earlier trucks in of itself the mere presence of the tuner it should not. Having a tuner can void it, but unless it's the 6.4 the presence of it won't void it unless you just have one of the dealerships that looks for any excuse.
I agree with Tim.If you drive your 4 ton truck like a race car on stock bolts and a chip you will most likely stretch the bolts. If you drive it like a 4 ton truck with a chip you should as safe as stock.
Do people who put tuners, exhausts and intakes in their trucks have an educated right foot? Maybe, but I think they got to school in a LITTLE yellow bus!

Thats pretty dangerous advice given the OP is asking about headgaskets. I'm sure I have as many fingers and toes for the amount of people on this board that had to replace them on thier cost due to tuners.

First and foremost, I said the mere presence of the tuner shouldn't, not that the tuner wouldn't later on cause damage to it, but the fact that a tuner is on there shouldn't. Second, I too can count and the best evidence that they have that a tuner caused their head problems is: I put a tuner on the truck and later had headgasket problems so therefore the tuner caused the headgasket problem. Could the tuner have caused that problem sure, could that problem have already existed and the tuner brought it to bear that much quicker, sure on that one as well. Also I always add to this, even though it is irrelevant to any argument, but for those that try to distract others with it, I too have head problems and I still firmly believe would I have stated. Do I believe there is a connection, sure do, do I believe that it is definatively so, not when people only present that as their evidence. The evidence that is presented on this and other forums like this is at best shows a connection, nothing more, it does not by any means definatively prove that the tuner caused the problem or that it already existed. Now do dealers void warranty rather or not a tuner actually caused the problem but just by the mere fact that there was a tuner sure do(mine however did not, although I never put a claim for engine work under warranty, but I had my warranty til it ran out and it ran out even after I put studs and injectors in and they still honored it, do all do that no). Should they have? Well that's a sticky question, but nothing up until the 6.4 was it stated that a mere presence of an aftermarket part in or itself would cause warranty voiding.
Wow! what a discussion. Thanks for all your thoughts. Let me rephrase my question. I don't claim to be much of a machanic. I do like the thought of being able to switch my truck between a power mode and a fuel saving mode. However if a device like that is likly to cause my motor problems, I'm satified to leave it stock as I would depend on a professional to replace head bolts or any of the like. So some of you motorheads (I call you that affectionally) what do you say?
Again, Thanks for all your thoughts
