It was suggested I upgrade to a 57 and up Distributor to increase the performance of my 1955, 239 CID V8 Y-Block, I think I have found one, can anybody help me confirm if this distributor is indeed 57 or later. Identifying markings are: FEK 12127 B2 H 783 Fomoco, Thx. David

Looks like the one according to Mummerts site. Just make sure the teeth on the new 57 match your old one, if different install the old gear on the 57 dizzy.
That happens to be one of the best of the era. It is a 57-9 prodution that uses a ball bearing breaker plate, the only years offered.
OTOH you can go to Advance Auto or NAPA and get a later design with O ring seal for around $55.
So that gives me a good Idea what I should pay for this one. Can I retro fit the o ring seal?
Does the one at NAPA you're referring to also have the bearings? Is that a rebuilt unit?
Thx. 286Merc for all your help over the last year of posts. If only there were one of you @ the Tractor Forum where I spend the rest of my time. David

David, what tractor forum are you tuning in on? I could use help to keep my Ford model 600 in form, as it is my work horse. Mike
Don't tell yer wife I turned you on to this: http://www.yesterdaystractors.com/ Background: "honey will you get off that Damn computer, what are you doing in there?" Me: "It's trucks honey, just talkin trucks, err tractors, I mean about my combine... ugh, O.K. O.K." David

David, the O ring style came out as a Ford replacement item in 65 and is similar to the SBF style. It makes pulling the dizzy a whole lot easier and prevents seizing. Plus you dont end up with the usual shaft slop of an original from Ebay, etc.
The plate is the bushing style and I doubt if it will be a problem given the use it will be seeing; that is not the major wear point anyway.
The ones I buy at Advance are in a Cardone box, I really dont know if they are rebuilts but they certainly look new, comes with points and condenser. Cardone is a huge supplier of ignitions of all makes.
BTW, I sometimes visit that tractor forum, I have a Ford 2000 that I'll get around to one of these days. Had a big 63 International also, forget the model but sold that.
Good Lord, thats a deal compared to the one going on E-bay rite now currently bid to $165.00. Just proves again you can do this hobby smart with a little help, or just go Craaa...zy throwin money around.
I've go a 1945 John Deere 12A Pull Type PTO driven Combine, a realization of a 15 Yr. dream, now that eccentric. Looking at a 49 Oliver rite now as a companion, if I can make the money work. Fortunatly I have sweet intact old Ford I could sell to pull it off. We'll see. I've really got my iron's in too many fires.
Thx. again David

I am also into Olivers as well as Ford trucks (and Internationals!) & can give you some info & sources there too if needed. Like you said, too many irons, too little time. Here's what my wife says about it all:
