Has anyone used the SLM dual coil glow plugs...Are they better than stock. I have 4 bad plugs and figured to replace all of them since I'm pushing 250k and I ran across the SLM dual coil plugs on the internet for about half the price of stock plugs...
I have never used them but considering the stock glow plugs work fine I would not want to use a hotter glow plug and risk the tip burning off and falling into the cylinder or getting them stuck in the head. Saving a few bucks now may be costly later just my two cents.
Totudriver, if you have Autozone near you they have the Motorcraft glow plugs in Motorcraft bags with the Ford part number on them for under $10 each, I BELIEVE their part number is ZD-11 for mine.
I would also not go with a non-factory glow plug, and run as fast as you can from Autolites. Several have used them and had the tips break off with the expected catastrophic engine damage.
See the problem with using fast glow plugs is you have to modify the timer to turn them off sooner or you risk burning out the plug. That ends up making it more expensive than just buying the factory style plugs in the first place. And don't try and save a dollar, the good plugs that you already have in your truck lasted this long. Get the Motorcraft/Beru ones.
While the valve cover is off: This is a good time to reseal the injectors and replace the wiring harness's and valve cover gaskets. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=278697
