I also own a 90 Ranger 4.0L 4x4. Check my photo and info. in the user gallery. The mods I did was a major improvment over stock. I am very satified with my truck now.
Very nice truck, thanks for the info.I will probably be doing the same mods.Where did you get the chip and how much?Kind of on a budget, this is my sons truck that I just picked up.Another question, what rpm do you run at 65 mph. This truck turns 3500 at 65.
The chips can be had via the online store on this site, and unlike the same chip provided elsewhere for the same price, supports this site and makes this message board possible.
To answer your question on RPM's. At 65mph my RPM is 2400 rpm in overdrive.
Your computer is located inside the cab on the passenger side, it's tucked behind the plstic cover in front of the passenger door. You will need to take off the trim peice where the carpet meets the rocker pannel. When disconnecting the computer there is a bolt in the middle of the wiring harness that needs to be unscrewed for the computer to get unplugged. The chip company will give you detailed instructions for prep and installation of the new chip. It's important to follow them. You might want to put a peice of electrical tape holding the chip to the computer so it does not get unplugged, Mine did. It has not since I used the tape.
