83' ranger NO POWER.

I had my motor rebuilt on my 83' ranger after i blew a valve. When I bought it I noticed it did not have much power. The engin would rev but the truck would be sluggish. When I picked it up from the repair man, he said it had no power and to either install all the missing ems system or go to a manual carb.
Also he thought the tranny might be bad.
and it was worse than before he rebuilt it.He said that was cause he was not getting paid to get it running. just rebuilding the motor.
So I had the trany and torque convertor rebuilt and
installed a Holly carb with manual choke. But it still does the same thing.
The engin purrs like a kitten and you can feel the jerk of the tranny when you put it in gear.
It acts like a clutch gone out in a manual tranny.
But mine in auto and they were supposed to have rebuilt the torque convertor.
Any help would be nice.
Thanks

I took of the catylic convertor and it made no differance.

Could it be the way the motor was reconected to the torque convertor?

I've got a friend thats got an automaitic in a '86 car (forget what the heck peice of junk it is) but basically same problem with it. They think its something wrong with the transmission so they rebuilt it. No luck there. So now they are looking for a new transmission to try. If and when they finally do swap it, I'll let you know how it went. Until then, best of luck to you.

Have you checked the basics first. Fuel press, spark, base timing and TOTAL timing? I have seen advance weights stick in the dist. and cause a sluggish accel. Check to see if the vac. advance is hooked up to ported vac. and not manifold vac. And for the engine rebuilder sounds like he needs a lesson in customer appreciation.
