I bought a E4OD tranny out of 1991 F-150 2WD. I want to install it into my 1990 F-150 4WD. The casting numbers are (2WD) FOTP-7006-CB. There is also a large 38 cast onto of the case. (4WD) FOTP-7006-CA. There is a large 34 cast onto of the case. Can anybody tell me what if any difference there is between these trannys?
The output shafts are different and will need to be swapped. Depending on what engines were in the two trucks the case could be different and the torque converters could be different.
Yes, the length is different. I'm not sure if the spines are different or not, but you can swap the two shafts. The part of the shaft that is inside the transmission is the same.
I got the tranny out and see the obvious length difference between the shafts.
What is is involved in switching the shafts? I never had a automatic transmission apart before, and would like some guidance before I start removing pieces to see if I can figure out how to get it out. I have a couple of haynes manuals but they dont go into any detail here.
Any tricks or suggustions would be greatly appreicated. Thanks !!
I would not recommend you try this yourself. E4ODs require some special tools or at least knowledge of their assembly techniques. To change the output shaft you will have to pull everything out to get to it and that includes removing the valve body. If you were to get it wrong it is likely to self destruct. Let a professional do it.
