Jerky Take off from long stop
Howdy,
Got a problem with a 95 F-350 7.3 Turbo Deisel with transmition problem. I've looked under the truck and it has a remanufactured trany. The remanufactured sticker on the drivers side has been glued on covering the numbers. The only numbers I see are RF-FOTP-7006-BB, these are casting numbers. On the Passenger side, the numbers on the tail stock is RF-F5TP-7A040-BA. It has 20 bolts holding on the pan. When I come to a stop for some extended time with the truck in gear, and I go to take off, the trany will buck then catch in gear and go. If I down shift to first gear and take off the OD and hold the break and accelerate, it does not do it. Once it gets going, it shifts normal and seems do do well. I was thinking of changing the trany fluid and filter and back flushing the cooler. Any body got any suggestions as a fix or also to ID this transmition? Any and all suggestions would be helpfull. Thanks again. BTW, my last post was with A/C and the replys helped me fix my problem. Keep them coming and thanks for the help!!

Does it help if you wiggle or push down on the gear selector? If so, the switch on the driver's side of the tranny needs to be adjusted.
Changing instructions... LubeGuard might help with any slipping & works well for high-load temp control.
Check for rubber or cork pan gasket. If cork, get a new filter & pan gasket kit. If rubber, it's reusable. Make sure to indicate 2wd or 4x4. Get 16qt of Mercon trans fluid, 2 bottles of red LubeGuard and a can of LubeGuard cooler flush. Drain trans pan & torque converter (there's a plug in the converter; you may have to rotate the engine a bit to find it). Unhook both cooler lines & hook up the flush can to the rear line; flush until can is empty, then turn can upside-down, pus button & empty propellant to clear line. Replace filter, making sure you get the old o-ring out of the tranny before putting in the new filter. Install the pan & gasket, putting in all the bolts handtight. Torque to 10-12ft-lb from the center to each end. Install plug in torque converter, torquing to 18-20ft-lb. Put converter cover back on. Add 6qt fluid, then 1 1/2 bottles of LubeGuard. Start engine & add 8qt more. Run through the gears & check fluid level. Fill to cold level (should hold about 15qt of fluid + the 1 1/2pt of LubeGuard).
