im sure this has been asked a million times, but im wanting to get a 75 f100 with a 6cyl and swap my 460 c6 from a 78 f150 into it. is the front crossmember the same? on my truck its very wide across it. and will the trans crossmember on mine interchange to hold the c6? im wondering what i will need to change and if this is an easy swap. also how much lighter is the 75 f100 short bed then my 78 f150 long bed? i heard the f100 runs strong with just a mild 460. im wanting something to embarass people on the street. i think a low 13 second truck would be an easy accompolishment with a 460.
Everything is the same. The 75 has drum brakes up front, and that might hinder stopping performance. I'd switch the MC & PB booster and the front brakes and calipers over to disk setup.
You will want to swap over the bigger radiator from the 78 too. The sb will not be "significantly" lighter than your lb. Your truck will pretty much run the same as the 78 does, unless your rear gears are any different. Low 13's should be able to be attainable, if you can get the back side to hook up...
You are gonna have to do some work if you want it in the 13s. 78 460 only makes about 220 HP. I'd port and polish the heads, get an aluminum intake, and demon 625 carb, buy a set of pistons for a 69 460 (higher compression). Anything you can do to reduce the weight of your truck will help out. Check out http://www.usbody.com/ for fibreglass body pieces.
