I have myself wondering what the top speed is of my 1986 F150 Ext cab, long bed 2wd AOD auto,3.55gears 302EFI wieght:4140LBs with 1 tank full with me in truck tires are 30" tall No bug deflectors
Motor seems decent. Compression #'s are 140 145 140 145 150 140 140 145psi
with Great oil pressure so motor is in good shape??
I have "Heard" on this site a guy claimed 150mph on a 6 mile stretch of road with a similar truck. I'm not calling him a lier but I really just don't know that why I'm asking "about" what she'll do with the given information as I don'
t want to kill myself but it would be nice to know!
thanks

The fastest I have gone in my truck (in signature) was 140 KILOMETRES an hour. I am a little scared of tire blowouts and speed (and cops too). But, ONE TIME in my dad's 79 Bronco with a 351 and a c6 I BURIED the needle STRAIGHT DOWN.
I wouldn't recommend going for a top speed anytime soon. As a long bed with extended cab you have more length, which will lend to more stability on straight roads, but less cornering ability on turns. As for your compression ratios, a really good engine has 5lbs or less difference between highest and lowest. Did you also check them wet?(squirt oil in the cyl, crank it over once, and then install the compression testor) If the compression goes up on that cyl, the rings are going, if it doesn't change, the valves are leaking. I might add, do this test at full operating temp, with your foot to the floor on the fuel while cranking over, and ALL spark-plugs removed for most accurate results.
Had mine over the 85 mph mark. Probably at 90-95 mph (31" tires). Tried it twice on a long, smooth, straight stretch of pavement that was out of the way. Other than those two times, my '86 rarely breaks 70 mph. 60-65 mph is a good cruising range that I stick to.
150, he's full of BS, now that could be in KM/hr though. I say this cause with my 82 flare, which has a 350hp 351W, 2/4 drop, high speed rated tires, 3.00 rear gears, and a toploader 4-speed (the good ones, not the OD junk) i hit 130mph when myself and my buddy with a similar power and such 72 pontiac ventura went out and seen what these could do, we were dead even the whole way. One thing I can say is that the truck was smooth as glass at that speed.
P.S. we hit that speed just above a half mile from a standstill.
ive had my 86 4x4 with the same power up to what i figure is 120 the speedometer stops at 85 obviously but i was turning abotu 4g's in OD speedo pinned in about a miles stretch of highway.i only say thats about the speed because i know how long it takes to go the sme distance in my monte at 120
That sounds like bull. You'd have to be suicidal to want to go that fast in an old pickup anyway. I've seen spedometers on ebay for these trucks that go to 140 sell for big bucks, but I don't get it.
Personally, my 86 4x4 flareside with EFI302 I had the needle pegged on a long stretch once, over 85mph. I don't think it broke 100 with it, it was probably around 90-95. The truck did feel solid and steady, more than I would expect. Oh, and that's when I had 31's on it. I don't know if my current 32's would help or hurt. It feels more sluggish off the start, but it cruises nice. If something happens at that speed, your gonna roll and your done. Maybe with a 351 or 460 you could pull some more speed with one too. Your biggest disadvantage at that speed is aerodynamics, and the pickup is like a cinderblock.

1986 F150 Ext cab, long bed 2wd AOD 302 EFI.... I seriously doubt anything over 105 MPH unless it is downhill. I agree with the others that write it would be suicidal to try it on a public road or freeway. Even a very well maintained 19 year old vehicle is not safe enough to run WOT without a lot of prep work. Believe me, I race a 1982 F-150 with a 460 Cobrajet, yet only then do I race at a track and there has been 10's of thousands of dollars spent on performance handling for that truck.
Don't even think about pushing yours to the limit! Just enjoy it for what it is, a fine old Ford truck!
Back in my days of yesterdays, (seems like early 20's) I was stupid enough to want to try to find out just question I had on my mind at that time, What DOES it feel like to go 100 miles an hour...windows down all around in the 65 Ford Galaxie Station Wagon, with a 289 four speed in the floor, and lots of empty straight highway in Florida....was too young to care if I gotten a ticket...but hey..thought that the timeing was right to give it a shot.....So off I go, started slow first, going through each gear with ease and listening to the engine hummm as each speed number kept getting bigger an bigger.... eventually topping off at 120 and still had plently of more space to press down on the accel. if I dare need it.....with the breeze flowing past me and everything along the road was a blur and the ride was wonderful....I was thinking...I just increased my time on this earth, but the experance was as short as it was sweet. All I wanted to know was ..What did it feel like, to go as fast as you can blurr past the trees...I was satisfied that the Ford Station Wagon held the road nicely, and that 289 was singing a song as it went down the road.....its good to think about the past...after you learn from them. Experance is the BEST Teacher you can have, but as with most anything thats worth its weight in memories, there is always that little thrill bug in all of us...so be careful and repect others as you drive senseably. Don't put your life or other lives in danger because you "don't care".
locknkey made me think about the fastest I ever drove. I was 17 years old with a '67 stang and a 302. I had all the windows down too and hit about 120, I didn't look down at the speedo after it was past 110 and climbing It was an experience for sure, but I'd never try it again. The 4 wheel non power drum brakes really weren't up for the task! It was really stupid in retrospect, I'm lucky I'm not
There was some chrome peeling on the mirror, and I remember when i got out of the car most of the chrome had peeled the rest of the way off.
It's amazing how many people can give you an exact top speed (usually 120+) of their truck when their speedometer never reads that high, or is off so bad it's not even usable at highway speeds, and they don't even have a tach.
Anything more...and I wouldn't been able to see a thing anyway....todays speedometers...wouldn't top 85 without going bong and or over to the otherside, back in those days (you had to own one of those (or stole it) and be a tad crazy to even get over 100, thats not much wind...but you know it when you get over 120 (which was the max on the speed o meter) Todays youth... will shake in their boots if they ever see 105 mph....without blinking.
