K&N filter

If I add a K&N filter to my 7.3 ltr 2000 F250 will I notice any effects, even though I have a tornado air flow system already in place? I currently get about 12-14 mpg. I posted this question in the wrong section the first time. I gotta get used to this forum. Thanks for any advice.

i would not use a K&N drop in filter in your truck. they do not seal very well. if you want to improve intake air flow get a tymar(the cheaper option) or AFE with PRO GAURD filter. and to be honest with you, your tornado is not doing anything for you and i would remove, on a turbocharged engine, at best it is restricting airflow to the turbo(which gives the incomming air all the swirling effect it needs)and if that thing ever comes apart...big problems

The K&N FIPK is a good setup, not as cheap as the others initially. I've been running it for almost a year now, and haven't had a problem. I thought about and looked at the paper element filters, just to try then and see how they compare, but for $35 a filter, I think I might stick with my K&N, that's reusable. That's my thought anyway. I think anything setup that is talked about on here, Tymar, AFE, you can't go wrong.

I'll second the post on the K&N drop in filter. I discarded mine this past oil change and went with the Napa gold filter.

The only thing a K&N will give you is less replacement cost of the stock filters!! Did not detect any fuel mileage increase after I installed it!! Don't listen to people that say things like they don't seal well and try to sell you on something else. They seal as good or better than the stock filters!! As for the tornado My mileage increased .08 MPG when I installed mine!! I've kept very good fuel mileage records from the day I got mobey!! (NEW) 6 miles!! now 183,000 miles!! Not going to take either off my truck!! Don't listen to peolpe that will tell you a programmer or a chip will get you better fuel mileage either. They don't, you will kill your fuel mileage, they will increase the preformance though!! I have a programmer also that I do take out every now and then just to check my mileage and to have my Mac. scan for any codes. None yet!!

MobeyDick I don't know who you think you are some guru or something! As for the filter it's a proven fact the seal on a factory air box is inseficect. As for fuel milage with a chip or program you will get better mileage, you lose milage when you can't keep your foot out of your new found horsepower. I can't believe the bullsh-- your putting out. I had the K&N in the stock air box and took it out, if you want it I'll give it to you it's junk! If you don't believe me do a white glove test on your air intake system. I also have a Diablo chip and see 1-2 mpg increase over stock with it and other mods. If thats all you want a chip or programer for is mileage don't buy it. After you install it your right foot becomes real heavy. I've been a mechanic for 20+ years and it really upsets me to see someone dishing out advice when they don't know I don't know how to abide by the language guidelines.

183,000 miles on mobey and 173.000 mlies on the k&N the tubes are as clean as the day I put it in!! Maybe it's the user that matters!!

I've put all but maybe 500 miles on mobey and I've tried just about everything you can to get better fuel mileage!! I used to work on my own trucks also but over the last 5 years or so I've let others do it for me!! Will be happy to post all 70 pages of mileage records and I wil let anyone see if they can tell where I have installed anything or not!!

If you think you know all, good for you, I still use my good sense to tell me when someone is BSn!! Or don't know his head from a hole in the ground!!

Moby what!?

All i know is what i saw. I mean you don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure it out. Put the tabs in the holes and snap the lid shut with the clips. How can it be the user? Make sure its seated and you should be it. Obviuosly mobydick is smarter than us all! I don't care if you even use a filter. Heck its not my truck. Just stating what i saw in my tubes. As for feul milage i didn't see squat with my k&n. Now i know forsure its all sealed up and thats all i care. The guy asked us are oppinion and mine is don't use it. Have a nice day
