They are junk too, Tim. Okay Mobey, where exactly in your intake tract is this Tornado located? I want you to explain to me how it works, and you know what I think somewhere in here you said you would post your mileage records, well I want to see them, all of them. If you want to continue thinking your intake restriction is increasing your mileage go right ahead, but until you prove it don't come on here making big claims.
K&N no good. MHO. I've come up with how the tornado increses fuel mileage. It resticts turbo flow, decresing boost and therefore the map sensor defuels the truck. Makes sense to me. I thought we were tring to get more power??? And if you have a intercooled engine, unless its after the cooler all that spinning air just got straightened out!
So far my K&N has worked great for me! It's a FIPK, not a drop-in for the stock box, I junked that thing. I've been running it for a year, and living on a the farm with lots of dirt and gravel roads as well as a lot of highway driving, I haven't had any dirt at all in my intake tube, I check it often, because of all the claims on here about how bad they are. But I'm rather impressed at how well it's been doing. The only thing getting the intake tube dirty is the CCV, it's blowing oil into my tube. That's next on my list to get changed.
Yeah the FIPK is okay, the drop in replacements are junk. I think there is still an issue with the filter media developing pin holes, but at least you know it seals properly which the drop ins do not do. The CCV is a simple mod, either piece together the stuff you need or order the kit from Ebay. I built my own for about $15.00 but it is not powdercoated like the Ebay kit.
