Im adding a banks system to my 92' and I have an intercooler out of a 99'-00 powerstroke. I was wondering if it would be to my advantage to mate the cooler to the system or is the boost that I can safley produce with this system to low to require the cooler.
i think a cooler is always a good option. but good luck figuring out where to ut it! i can't imagine there being enough room to ut it there. i could be wrong, but i thought they were BIG. i think it will make a little more turbo lag. and i don't know if you can even make the turbo push over what is it 12 psi? if you think that it will make about 15 or 20 psi, then yeah put it on there. but put it together first and see how it runs. im savin up for a sidewinder now, seems like you save just enough to get it, then you gotta pay bills and buy a resent for your gf or some $#%#get it all ut together like banks says to put it and then look at it and see how hard-easy it would be to make it and how much it costs you and go from there
I know that i can fit it in and I have a good friend that does exhuast so I know I can get it plumed in. Banks told me that there would be no need since the boost pressure wouldnt be high enough to require it, that is with the pump turned up to and the waste gate being set to their specs. Im hoping someone would be able to tell me if the motor would be capable of producing enough boost without destroying itself. Thanks for your input.
don't go past 1100 degree on the pyro or be up there for very long it will work. a guy over on dieselstop argve heres his website http://mywebpages.comcast.net/argve1/Enterprise.html
his truck put out 201.3hp and 387.6 tq at rear wheels on a dyno a stock IDI only puts out 125hp. his truck will kill a stock power stroke. He has replaced two motors one the valve droped and the other cavitation got it but it wasn't because what he did to the truck. If you watch the pyro you will be fine. also with the intercooler you have less of a problem with blowing the head gaskets which is not that big of a worry with the 7.3l diesel and if you have a 6.9 put the larger bolts in it or put arp studs and you be fine. Hopping anything up takes away from the longivity of it so what are you afraid of. if you want the power make the sacrafice or be happy and live with what you got. a you can blow head gaskets in a 6.9 just by driving it and the design flaw of the stock headgaskets. the 7.3 is a different story you just have cavitation to worry about really or cracking your block like I did and the head gaskets were still good.
oh the dreded c word ok its when air in the coolant vibrates thin little holes through to the cylinder bores and put coolant in with the oil leading to bigger holes as time goes on. doesn't that freak you that can happen and international done us one better when they bored out the 6.9 .110 over an a 7.3l
