I am needing to install a tyranny cooler. I am leaning towards a 6.0 cooler but a little on the spendy side. I also looked at the trucool 40,000# and it looks pretty good too. I was wondering how hard it was to install a 6.0 cooler and if anyone has a good write up with pcs. My truck is a 95 and has a banks intercooler on it. Thanks for the help.
you don't need to get carried away with a cooler for the E40D.especially the 95-97's with the stock high vol pumps.
the reason they like those massive coolers on the 4r100's in the 99-03 section is because flow actually lowers when the converter locks up on those trans.why the 6.0 trans has such massive coolers clues me their pumps in their trans probably work the same way (don't know.)
with the old versions (e40d) flow drastically increases upon converter lockup, resulting is super cooling.
you might want to start with a trans temp gauge.if your not seeing over 190-200F towing, then you don't really need to do anything.if you are, then it's likely the tru-cool will more than suffice.
ideal trans temp ; 170-180F
remember,if you don't need it,you don't want it.the 6.0 trans cooler placed in front of your intercooler would bring down it's efficiency along with the efficiency of your radiator.
and its a good thing for the t-stats or they take forever to reach operating temp without.
even with the older lower vol pump it did in chip truck, before the hd reman with updated f5 (your yr spec trans) pump.
E40D's are easy to keep cool.temp gauge first.
I actually have a temp gauge on my truck and the last time I towed I hit 240 by the time I hit the top of the hill. When my tyranny was rebuilt the guy that did it never replaced the cooler, so I'm wondering if its notplugged. I might try the try cool. Thanks for the help.
I have my 6.0 cooler in front of the radiator and behind the a/c condenser. Fits perfect there and my trans runs much cooler than all the other coolers I tried before.
I run the trucool and its sandwiched between my IC and radiator. You can see what I pull, and have not seen over 205, and that was in 95* with 50mph winds.
