By my calculator I mean my handheld calculator, which is what I go by not the overhead meter.
I did meet the service manager today and stressed my dissatisfaction. And I did it quite well, not in my typical red neck fashion. I was polite but stern. He did try to blow some smoke, which got on my nerves but I overlooked it and kept to the point as to why I was there in the first place.

Maybe I am, but I got that information from two different Ford Master Technicians who rechecked the information and sound quite certain. If it was built after Oct 3, 03 it didn't have PI. It used EGR strategy to keep it quiet at idle.

Saxon, My truck is an 04 with an 03 motor. With the FTE flash it runs better that it did when new, but, no more pilot inj. I would say they installed your flash wrong if your motor is running bad. I have been told that it is a detailed installation when flashing the computer. "This is what I have been told by the ford service dept" Dont hold me too it.

Yep, and when you touch the throttle the EGR valve closes, making the engine slightly louder again. The 04 engine also have different injectors than the 03 engines, although I don't know if that was done for sound or injector performance issues. That info was in the 6.0 bible. I also read it in the manual in the Commercial Service Manager's office at my local Ford dealer's truck shop. The '04's use the EGR to control air flow which reduces engine noise at idle. However, it is not a great difference as the original idea of PI was. It could be possible that Jimmy got a rogue engine, or just got lucky and his idles very quietly. One piece of advice, if you like it the way it is and it idles quietly, DO NOT let them reflash it. Mine has gotten louder every time and places I used to leave it run, I know have to shut it off to hear (drive thru's especially).

My experience with flashes with an 03 and 04; is that the results depends on how much care the tech takes to load it.

Well truck went in for warranty work on the lights for keyless entry, side mirror, and listed a hesitation. Left out the poor mileage. it will also be serviced for the 18k check up minus the oil change. i take care of that myself.

The early 03s have C94, later 03 have C95. 04s have a redesigned fuel injectors. One of the many changes from 03 to 04.

Ford used up what C94 injectors they had in 03 before switching, only way to know is to put one in your hand from what I have been told.

Issue Date and RC #

Anyone with the new flash know the Issue date and RC #? My friend who is usually up on this stuff can't find a new flash for my 04 yr 03 motor truck. Is anyone with this new flash happy with it and does it really improve fuel economy?

Thanks

On the 03, the improvements were more noticeable. The romping idle, dead pedal and smoking went away. Fuel mileage, which was better than my 04, stayed the same.

On the 04 the flash cleared up the "hunting" problem with the cruise control set.

I was and am very happy with the 03 and the 04. Still driving the 04 Harley edition.

I have posted more detail in other places, but suffice it to say I think the new flas is a dramatic improvement on 03 motors.

Starting is improved, Dead Pedal, Smoking, power, smoothness, you name it. As I believe SBV said the new flash feels very similar to what the Predator 45hp tune felt like prior to this new flash. I haven't loaded the predator yet.

Hoefully someone can dyno the new tume very soon.

I have an 03 and have the latest tune. According to my diesel tech, the flash is 3U7A-12A650-FTE. The old RC8 Dec flash ended in FTC for the 6.0 Torqushift non-California.

It is an improvement for throttle response, performance and mileage. From what I am hearing from a couple other techs is there is a new fuel strategy with this flash. Ford is being really tight lipped about it for some reason. There isn't any official info on it.

Pi

Thanks to all who said I don't have PI...For the last 9 months I thought I did. If it's the EGR Stradegy so be it, I'll happily accept that too. Too bad someone didn't say it back in March..Oh Well... Still I won't let them reflash it All my buddies with 7.3's can't get over how quiet mine is....Infor is great on this site...Guess I won't mess with the EGR either...Good Luck to All (Quiet as a late 04 Dodge)
