I recall a Ford service guy telling me this was a big deal and probably a TSB in the day. My '85 E150 has the master bolted to the floor to the right of the accelerator and the floor flexes. I fixed mine with a plate, but what a pain.
The thin plate goes under the dash. By the way my floor has already been replaced as with many other parts on the truck. Doors, fenders, hood, tailgate, valve covers, oil pan twice, heads, head bolts, gas tanks, 5 crossmembers on the frame, manifolds, starter motor, dipstick tube, rear end cover, etc, etc, all due to rot. Not much on this truck has just worn out. My wife thinks I should cut the cord and buy a new truck.
I'd like to know if they fixed the problem too. I don't seem to have any problem with my 86, but I would like to know if this is something I should worry about.
Thanks! My dad bought it from the original owner when it was a year old. It's still only got 45K on it. (so you can see why I want to prevent any clutch problem before it starts) Original paint and all. I got it in a garage now, which is nice. It's a good truck, and it's different. I really like it.
the firewall is something to keep in mind. If it isn't quite releasing, it may well be the problem. That's how mine showed itself. had trouble with going into reverse and such.
before I did mine, it moved about an inch, and after I fixed it with the kit, no flex, and no problem shifting into the non synchronized gears. Now that it's cold, 2 gear is showing me that the synchros are probably bad, doesn't like to take it into gear very well until the tranny warms up a bit. I need to change the oil in it just for principle anyway, probably will go synthetic and hope it buys me some time.
