I am trying to get second gear to fuction after a engine remove and replace. Tranny works fine, it just bypasses second. I think the elimination of the egr is the culprit? The egr was purposely blocked.
Does it not contain the vacuam feed for the modulator on transmission?
If I am on right track how do I feed the modulater without hooking up the egr? Gordo
The modulator needs vaccum, seems without it, it will now shift. so take the vaccum someplace near the carb. on a tee or if you have it, just use a vaccum from the mantifold under the carb. it would work better if you could just get another EGR from the same model/engine as yours from the junk yard. it would just work better...
Vacuum for the modulator should come from a (tree) on the back of the intake. One big one to the brake booster, couple small ones, one to the modulator, one to other vacuum supplies like AC/Heater switches etc.
Anywho, with no vacuum supplied to modulator, otherwords all source to it plugged, from a standstill the truck should still shift through the gears, to my understanding that is. No vacuum will cause no downshifts for sure.
Have been too busy so I have not hooked up vacuam yet. Still a two speed. I would think that the two posters who say I need vacuam to get second gear could be , or are right. Still unsolved though, but will get hooked up by tuesday next. Gordo
My F-150 with the 351W and C6 shifted thru the entire drive range before it hit 5mph on the speedo. It was a bad modulator causing it all. In your case, just connect the vaccuum to a good source on the manifold. It should cure all the problems that you are having.
