I drove my truck to run some errands today, and let it sit in the parking lot for about an hour. I returned, started it up and drove off - and instantly noticed that throttle kickdown was gone. I can downshift manually, and it will automatically downshift on deceleration, but if I floor it it simply will not kick down. The TV cable is/was properly adusted 6k ago, and the transmission seems otherwise OK. Fluid was changed at the same time, and it is still red and does not smell burned. Anyone have an idea as to why this is happening, and what I could do to fix it?
Didn't those usually have the kickdown rod? I fso, it likely is the bushing that usually fails, and the rod falls off. It could be the same effect even on a cable if it broke or fell off. You'll have to check that.
some of the older ones were still the kickdown rod, I don't know when they changed, but the cable can break or the mounting clip break or come off. Same effect all the same.
actually all the aods minus the tbi units were TV cable controlled. adjustment is crucial in an aod. any miss adjustment can cause an imediate failure. i would recommend calling a tranny shop to get it in. sounds like it either fell out of adjustment, or the cable stretched. both are fatal to an aod. it is nothing to mess with unless you have a pressure gauge..
call it whatever you want, the injector was in the throttle body, hence the name, it doesn't matter what company called it that. Central fuel injection, throttle body, means the same thing.
i just didnt want to offend anybody by calling it what Mr Goofedwrench calls it. some people on this forum get a little testy if you dont address fords system by their correct names, and not the industry standard name.
